ABOUT THE ROLE and THE TEAM

We're looking for multiple Catering Officers to join our Catering team of seven, to prepare, heat and package meals for serving to prisoners in our care at Port Phillip Prison. Reporting to our Catering Manager, your skills and experience will play an essential part in helping the prison kitchen run smoothly. The team will prepare breakfast for 8am, lunch for 11am and dinner for 4:30pm, for distribution to prisoners across the site. As the Catering Officer you will be:

• Overseeing the preparation of breakfast, lunches and dinners that are of sufficient quantity, quality, and nutritional value to maintain health and well-being
• Supporting religious beliefs and dietary requirements, in accordance with hygiene and food handling legislation
• Providing expert oversight to prison workers in the prison kitchen, guiding seven to eight prisoners to support production
• Ensuring that the preparation, reheating and packaging of the daily meals complies with recommended dietary intakes and guidelines developed from time to time by the National Health and Medical Research Council

This is an onsite role working out of the prison kitchen, with direct contact with prisoners, who are also under the supervision of G4S Correctional Officers.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The prison kitchen is a fast paced, high production environment so we're looking for individuals with experience with volume, variety and inventive ideas. It is essential that you hold either a:

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery

OR

• Certificate III in Baking
