ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a part-time opportunity 22.5 hours per week.
Reporting to the Manager Wungening Moort, this position will lead a team of staff to deliver Wungening Moort, an Aboriginal In-home Support Service. The service is delivered by a Consortium of four Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, comprising Ebenezer Aboriginal Corporation, Moorditj Koort, Coolabaroo Community Services, and led by Wungening Aboriginal Corporation (Wungening).
You will lead your team to support the most vulnerable Aboriginal families in the PEEL area to nurture moorditj djerripin koorlungas (strong happy children). You will work with the Manager of the service to promote practice excellence in working with Aboriginal families while adhering to Wungening Moort’s service model. You will foster a learning culture within the team, acting as a coach to support staff to improve practice, while facilitating opportunities for training and professional development. You will be an active contributor to the continuous improvement of the service and contribute to service reports as required by funding bodies.
This will enable the service to deliver the outcomes prescribed by our funding body:
Families improve parenting skills to safely care for their children
Families address issues that impact negatively on their children
Families develop skills and get their children to school
Families improve and develop culturally safe support networks
Essential Criteria
A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or related discipline or significant relevant experience (5 years) in a child protection / family support setting.
Considerable experience and advanced skills in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote healing and family safety and wellbeing.
Considerable knowledge of the issues and challenges experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander families and children in contact with the child protections system.
Knowledge of contemporary approaches to family empowerment, such as Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making and Family Group Conferencing.
Demonstrated high level communication, facilitation and negotiation skills including written, oral and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage, lead and be part of a team in order to deliver a quality service and achieve set outcomes.
Demonstrated experience facilitating complex case conferences from an anti-oppressive framework that promotes empowerment and self-determination.
Demonstrated experience managing stakeholder relationships and partnership.
Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and act decisively.
Demonstrable commitment to empowering and respecting children and young people.
Demonstrated ability to provide safe environments for children and young people and protect them from abuse and neglect.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team in providing a safe environment for children and young people and protect them from abuse and neglect.
