• MS SQL Database Expert (Azure, Performance Optimisation & Scalability)

About the Role:
We’re looking for a seasoned MS SQL Database Expert to lead efforts in performance tuning, architectural improvements, and cost optimisation across our high-volume, high-availability transactional systems hosted in Azure SQL Server.
With over 6 million inbound messages daily, our environment is fast-paced and data-intensive. We’re after someone who thrives under pressure, knows their way around large-scale systems, and can drive measurable improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in a 24/7 production environment.
• Design and implement partitioning and sharding strategies to boost scalability and performance.
• Conduct load testing and benchmarking with clear before-and-after metrics.
• Collaborate with the Development Team to build scalable, long-term solutions.
• Evaluate open-source alternatives (e.g. PostgreSQL) and provide risk and cost assessments.
• Ensure the ongoing integrity, security, and availability of data.

What We’re Looking For:

• Proven experience as a Senior MS SQL DBA, particularly within Azure
• Deep expertise in performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, and sharding
• Experience managing large-scale transactional systems
• Exposure to PostgreSQL or similar open-source RDBMS
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills

Good to have

• Experience in cloud cost optimisation, especially within Azure
• Background in BI/reporting tools and data warehousing
