Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented paralegal to join their specialist family law practice in Parramatta. This opportunity is ideal for either a career paralegal with strong experience in family law procedures, court documentation, and subpoena handling, or a final-year law student with excellent drafting skills and a keen interest in family law. Applicants should be comfortable navigating the Commonwealth Courts Portal and have experience using Smokeball practice management software (or similar legal software). This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly with an Accredited Specialist in Family Law, gaining exposure to a wide range of matters, including care and protection and agency work within the family law courts.

About the role

This is a part-time position (3 days per week), working directly with the Principal Lawyer and Graduate Solicitor in a small, highly skilled team. You will provide legal and administrative support across a range of matters, gaining exposure to real, substantive family law work in a supportive and professional environment.

Key responsibilities

Drafting and preparing family law documents including Initiating Applications, Responses, Affidavits, Consent Orders and Financial Statements

Preparing and managing subpoenas, including compiling subpoena bundles for hearings

Filing and managing documents through the Commonwealth Courts Portal

Using Smokeball to manage files, generate legal documents, and maintain accurate records

Liaising with clients, courts, and legal professionals with empathy and professionalism

Assisting with preparation for court hearings, mediations, and agency appearances

General administrative support including file management, document collation, diary coordination and correspondence

About you

A career paralegal with experience in family law, or a final-year law student with a strong interest in the field

Confident with court procedures and experienced in managing family law documentation and subpoenas

Familiar with the Commonwealth Courts Portal and comfortable working in Smokeball

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and high standards of grammar

Organised, reliable, and capable of managing multiple priorities

Able to handle sensitive matters with empathy, maturity, and discretion

A team player who is eager to learn and contribute meaningfully to client outcomes
