The Role

The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is an historic and transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting edge nuclear-powered submarine program will transform Australia’s economic and national security landscape for decades to come.

Key duties of the EL 1 Media and Communication Advisor role include:

  • Being accountable for the delivery, development and coordination of a range of external communication, media and social media products, events and activities.
  • Managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people.
  • Producing and supporting the development of complex communication products such as social media campaigns, speeches, talking points and other communications materials to support Australian Submarine Agency outcomes.
  • Support communications for internal audiences to achieve agreed business outcomes.
  • Working collaboratively and negotiating effectively to influence stakeholders and subject matter experts to deliver high quality communications products.
  • Analysing the strategic environment and priorities within the Australian Submarine Agency and adjust communications and media products and activities accordingly.
  • Assess, interpret and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.

  • Experience and interest in media, social media or communications roles
  • Ability to engage and influence the Australian Submarine Agency senior leadership and provide the key link between senior executives and the Australian Submarine Agency employees.
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation and collaboration that will support the cultivation of productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A 'can-do' attitude with demonstrated ability to deliver high quality outcomes in a dynamic fast-paced high-pressure environment.
  • Have strong stakeholder engagement skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of people, including at an internal and external senior executive level
  • Exercise sound judgement, discretion, and integrity including the ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
  • Have attention to detail, with the ability to take responsibility for own actions and accurate completion of work
