Your Opportunity
Working in a small, close-knit team, you will provide planning and support in the assessment of development applications and work to foster community awareness and compliance with statutory requirements in respect of planning and development matters. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of strategic and statutory planning projects.
This role is suited to suitably qualified and experienced urban / town planners or graduates with a keen interest in this area.

This is currently a full-time position, however part-time hours will be considered for the preferred candidate.

About the Department
With teams in building, plumbing and planning, the Planning & Development Department falls within the Planning and Environmental Services directorate, tasked with governing development in Southern Downs and fostering growth in the region. The department raises community awareness of compliance with statutory requirements and educates the community on the broader land use policy.
Key functions of the department include assessing development applications and providing advice to developers, residents and elected members. In this role you will provide detailed advice to Council on the associated legislation governing planning and development, find creative solutions to development problems and be involved in the progression and review of strategic planning documents.

Term: Full-time / Part-time
Hours of Work: 72.5 full time hours per fortnight
Pay Level: $2,806.57 to $3,455.97 per fortnight (Level 3-5), plus superannuation and annual leave loading
In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.
Employment Base: Warwick, Queensland

The complete Key Responsibilities of this role can be found in the Position Description. These include (but are not limited to):
- Provide professional advice to Council, consultants, developers and the general public on planning aspects of development proposals and on all the provisions of the Planning Scheme and associated legislation.
- Prepare development assessment reports, including reports to Council.
- Assist in the maintenance of registers, application tracking systems and records.
- Carry out investigations and research projects in relation to land use, operational works, planning and related areas and prepare associated reports and documentation.
What You Will Need
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Relevant qualification of at least degree level preferred while a Diploma of Town Planning will be considered.
- Knowledge of, and the ability to apply, the relevant State planning legislation including the current Planning Act and Development Assessment rules.
- A sound understanding of contemporary planning methodologies and practices.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively manage interactions with a variety of stakeholders including the public and consultants.
- Well-developed analytical, research and problem solving skills including the ability to prepare routine reports and documentation.
- To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
