About the Role
The City is seeking an experienced tradesperson to undertake Senior Leading Hand duties in the area of parks maintenance. The successful appointee will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking daily maintenance of the City’s parks and infrastructure assets;
  • Provide supervision, guidance and training to leading and general hands and new employees;
  • Operate and maintain tools and other equipment;
  • Process documentation manually and through the use of smart devices including individual timesheets and work orders;
  • Carry out broadleaf and selective spray, fertiliser and wetting agent applications in turf;
  • Liaise with colleagues, contractors and the public;
  • Undertake duties as directed by the Supervisor;
  • Undertake other activities including undergoing training and development as required for the execution of the role;
  • Comply with all City policies and procedures and relevant legislation;
  • Exercise duty of care in line with City Occupational Safety and Health Policies.

About you
As a collaborative member of the Assets Maintenance team, the position is accountable for undertaking leading hand duties in the area of parks maintenance. The successful appointee must be adaptable and experienced in the parks maintenance industry. They must also thrive working in a very busy and change driven organisation. As such, applicants must be able to demonstrate through their CV and covering letter that they meet the following capabilities:

Essential skills:

  • Trade Certificate in Turf Management, Amenity Horticulture or equivalent;
  • Experience in the operation of multifunction plant and equipment;
  • Knowledge of turf maintenance and quality control procedures;
  • Experience in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology;
  • Proven communication skills;
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team;
  • Capable of physical manual labour;
  • Minimum MR class vehicle licence;
  • A positive, proactive approach to change and a willingness to work in any service unit across the City should it be operationally required.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of Occupational Health and Safety measures in the workplace including hazard identification in park and reserves;
  • Safety awareness card.
