The Bendigo District RSL (BDRSL) requires a suitably qualified and passionate Museum professional to work at the Bendigo Military Museum (BMM) on a part-time basis to cover maternity leave.
You will have a high level of experience in project management, curatorship, research and/or conservation. Having knowledge and experience in the care, handling, conservation standards, documentation, packing techniques and transportation of objects.
This position works closely with the GM, BMM Chairperson, Functions Manager, Communications and Marketing Manager and Welfare Administration Office Manager, to provide administrative support for gallery staff, exhibitions, events and functions.
Development and delivery of creative projects along with the BMM Sub-Committee and broader volunteer curatorial team.
The position is responsible for overseeing BMM casual customer service staff and volunteers with an eye for detail.
Reporting to the GM and Assistant Manager, the core responsibilities of the position include:
Administration & management of internal and external staff & contractors
Leading the development of creative projects
Promoting the Bendigo Military Museum, the history of Central Victorian Veterans and Service Members, and ensuring the BMM’s place in the Regional Victorian Arts and Culture scene is secure
Key Selection Criteria:
Proven administrative experience.
Relevant qualification in Museum Studies and experience in a Gallery/Museum environment.
Ability to manage multiple projects and work closely with external contractors – managing exhibition schedules, research projects, grant applications, conservation & significance assessments etc.
Accountable for presentation of exhibitions and public spaces, ensuring highest quality visitor experience possible.
Experience in the supervision of staff and volunteers to ensure a productive and co-operative workplace.
Experience conducting oral history interviews and working with vulnerable people is highly desirable.
About the Bendigo Military Museum
The Returned Soldiers` Memorial Institute building was opened in November 1921 by the Earl of Stradbroke as a permanent memorial to all those from Bendigo who served in WWI & particularly to those who died in service. The Museum building had a $5.1M renovation in 2018 and is a significant landmark both for the residents of the City of Greater Bendigo and for visitors to Bendigo.
OTHER INFORMATION
Permanent part time role (0.25-0.4 FTE) to cover maternity leave, based at both Bendigo District RSL (BDRSL) and Bendigo Military Museum (BMM). $67-$73K per annum pro rata (excl. super).
BDRSL undertakes a variety of employment screening checks. This includes employment references, working with children checks and national police checks.
