We are seeking a passionate and dedicated academic to join our team as a Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery. This is an identified position at JCU and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to nursing and midwifery education in a diverse and dynamic environment, with a focus on excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement—especially in tropical, rural, remote, and Indigenous contexts. Can be based in Cairns or Townsville

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE

Based at our state-of-the-art clinical teaching facilities in Townsville or Cairns, you'll play a pivotal role in educating the next generation of midwives, with a particular focus on tropical, rural, remote, and Indigenous communities. You will:

  • Deliver high-quality learning and teaching in midwifery across various modes, including face-to-face, blended, and online.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and innovation within cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary academic teams.
  • Engage in scholarly research and publication activities relevant to midwifery and/or nursing education.
  • Support the development of culturally safe and inclusive educational practices, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and communities.
  • Participate in service and engagement activities that strengthen links with local, regional, and remote health providers and communities.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Current registration as a Midwife (or both Midwife and Nurse) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • A Master's or PhD in a relevant discipline, or significant progress toward completion—or a commitment to enrol and complete one.
  • Experience in tertiary education, particularly in cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver flexible, blended, and online education.
  • Evidence of research and publication activity appropriate to your career stage and relevant to opportunity.
  • A clear understanding of the educational challenges and opportunities in tropical, rural, remote, and Indigenous settings.
  • A sound understanding of Cultural Safety, especially as it pertains to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in health care and education.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, communities, and their representatives.
