Job Openings: Canteen Assistants

Location: Mentone (8-230pm), and Endeavour Hill (9-2pm)

We are seeking a dedicated person to join our school canteen in these Mentone, and Endeavour Hill areas. This position requires working 5 days per week (Monday-Friday) -Mentone (8-230pm), and Endeavour Hill (9-2pm)

In addition to the chef/cook position, we also have openings for canteen assistants, front of house staff, kitchen hands to work 4-6 days per week (9:00 AM - 2:30 PM) during school hours. These support roles are available in our canteens located in Mentone, and Endeavour Hill areas.

Canteen Assistants/Kitchen Hands/Front of House

Working Hours: 4-5 days per week, 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM (school hours)

Locations: Mentone, and Endeavour Hill

All positions are casual, working for 40 weeks a year, operating during normal Victorian school days, and closed during school holidays and public holidays.

Ideal Candidates

We are looking for experienced hospitality workers who are looking to cut down on long and unstable working hours by offering flexible hours and work-life balance. These positions are perfect for semi-retired chefs or hospitality workers who want ample weekend or holiday time off and work only during school hours. The areas of work are suitable for individuals living nearby in Mentone, and Endeavour Hill.

Key Duties

Organize and prepare foods according to the menu.

Basic cooking and food preparation skills.

Check all supplies against invoices and delivery dockets.

Ensure stock is kept at appropriate levels and assist the canteen manager in maintaining stock inventory.

Service students and teachers using our POS system.

Help with washing and tidying up the kitchen area.

Maintain and keep the kitchen and all service areas clean and tidy.

Adhere to Australian Food Safety Standards and Food Standards Code.

Desirable Criteria

Previous experience in a café or food industry environment.

Barista or coffee experience is a bonus.

Ability to work with others in a team environment.

Ability to work autonomously and within a team.

Experience in food preparation and service settings.

Ability to work fast, efficiently, and under pressure.

Positive can-do attitude and self-motivation.

Minimum 12 months proven experience in Australian kitchen operations for the chef position.

You are also needed to be a holder of:

Food Safety and Handling certificate.

Working for children certificate.

Police check.
