Are you a skilled and compassionate leader ready to make a real difference in people's lives? We're on the lookout for a dedicated Team Leader to head our Counselling Service in the Port Lincoln area. This is your chance to lead a dynamic team, provide critical support to individuals and families, and drive meaningful change in our community.

Individuals must have at least 2 years experience in relevant practice and team leadership to be considered for this position.

About us

West Coast Youth and Community Support Incorporated (WCYCS) is a non-for-profit charitable organisation that takes pride in being a local service providing opportunities for young people, individuals and families across the Eyre Peninsula through our many support services and programs which include, AOD Counselling, Homelessness Services, Youth programs, Youth & Family Support Counselling and Community Connection Programs.

Program Overview

The Alcohol and Drug Support program provides support for Drug and Alcohol misuse and mental health and wellness recovery. The program creates a foundation for integrated, community led program delivery that is well supported, understands and meets our local needs and promotes innovation and collaboration with key partners through federal and state government and non-government supports, with key principals of reducing the impact and costs associated with Drug and Alcohol misuse and mental ill heath by providing a collaborative program that is strength based, has the needs of individuals, their families and wider community and society to at the heart of the project.

In addition to our face-to-face counselling service, we run the Healing Circle Day Centre from Mallee Park three days of the week. The Healing Circle model provides support for Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people for AOD misuse and promotes positive mental health recovery through group therapy and connection.

Position overview

The Team Leader is responsible for the implementation, leadership and integration of the adult and youth counselling services in order for the programs to meet their objectives. This position has a particular focus on leading and mentoring program staff, applying professional knowledge and support whilst providing direct services and managing complex client work.

Key qualifications & experience

  • Qualified, Social Worker, Nurse, Psychologist, Counsellor, or similar with experience in drug and alcohol support.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in relevant practice and team leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills encompassing report writing, case note writing and supervision and the ability to communicate effectively with managers, staff and stakeholders across a range of diverse cultural groups and settings.
  • Experience in working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal /Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) backgrounds
  • Experience working within a harm minimisation framework and delivery of therapeutic services
  • Must have relevant Working with Children screening check in place
  • Hold a current C Class Driver’s License
  • Current First Aid Certificate

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor Counselling and Healing Circle Teams
  • Responsibilities will include the provision of a responsive, strength-based AOD counselling service for individuals and their families or carers.
  • Ability to program and facilitate AOD group sessions
  • Provide a range of clinical and counselling interventions to assist clients to change risk behaviours and increase their capacity to effectively manage the difficulties they are experiencing that are associated with problematic AOD use that promote recovery
  • Link people to places- an awareness and networks for harm minimization and rehabilitation service within a clinical framework
  • Delivery of out of hours services

The position is advertised as Part Time however we may consider a Full Time position for the right candidate.
