Summary:
The Project Planning Team is seeking a dynamic Principal Planning Officer to join a high-performing team dedicated to delivering efficient, sustainable infrastructure that supports the educational outcomes for Queensland's students. This role operates within the New Schools Planning stream of the Project Planning team.
This is a full-time opportunity to make a tangible impact on the future of education by shaping the way new school infrastructure is designed and delivered to improve and support a progressive education system across the state.
About the Role:
As a Principal Planning Officer within the New Schools Planning stream, you will work closely with specialist central office teams responsible for the delivery of new schools throughout Queensland. You will provide guidance in the design of new school infrastructure projects from the initial planning phase through to the delivery of new schools, ensuring they achieve scope and functional requirements.
Key Responsibilities include:
Driving the development and delivery of infrastructure planning initiatives, including scoping documentation, facilities briefs, and concept master planning.
Providing strategic and high-level program support for ongoing and future projects.
Engaging with stakeholders through Project Working Groups (PWGs) to develop innovative and fit-for-purpose infrastructure solutions.
Providing critical analysis of concept design documentation to ensure alignment with functional operational requirements.
Assisting in procurement activities involving the engagement of external consultants involved in the new schools planning process.
Providing essential input into key project processes, including risk analysis workshops, social impact assessments, and schematic design project proposals.
Delivering accurate and timely reporting, detailed presentations, and briefing materials for team leaders, governance boards, and stakeholders to support evidence-based decision-making.
Collaborating to identify opportunities for ongoing continuous improvement in the infrastructure planning processes.
Leading and inspiring innovative approaches to infrastructure planning that address the evolving needs of Queensland's education system.
Ensuring alignment with governance processes and departmental policies while identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies, where required.
Adapting to evolving priorities and duties consistent with the role's responsibilities.
You will report to the Manager, New Schools Planning, Project Planning, within a supportive environment that values teamwork, innovation, and adaptability.
About You:

Proven experience and knowledge in delivering relevant infrastructure solutions in educational settings or similar environments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex planning challenges.

A commitment to fostering positive change and continuous improvement to support best practice project planning and delivery.
