Location: Kensington, Western Australia

The Information and Records Section provides a comprehensive records management service. Within the section, the Geospatial Library Unit coordinates the provision of spatial data across the agency. This ongoing data collation program supports provision of spatial data formatted for use in QGIS and Esri applications. We provide and maintain customised tools in these software packages and publish corporate spatial data.

We currently have an opportunity for a Geospatial Systems Officer to join our team.

Under the general direction of the Coordinator, Geospatial Library, the Geospatial Systems Officer:

  • Supports and guides users across the department in the use of specific geospatial systems for:
  • Field data collection
  • Desktop GIS software
  • Developing and maintaining GIS applications written in Python
  • Administers and maintains corporate geospatial database layers, including the management of data integrity and security, as well as system availability and performance; and
  • Liaises with internal and external clients and provides advice and support to information custodians on geospatial system technologies to ensure geospatial solutions are integrated, fit-for-purpose and maintained in accordance with department strategies.

Selection Criteria

  1. Experience working in a complex, varied and geographically distributed information and related technology (IT) public sector environment or similar, demonstrating ability to explore various possibilities and generate innovative open standards-based solutions relating to digital mapping and/or geospatial information systems and GIS applications.
  2. Demonstrated ability to apply lateral and creative thinking to contribute ideas and solutions for a complex, varied and geographically distributed environment, including having knowledge of contemporary issues related to best practice principles, methods and process, and a demonstrated ability to apply these in a diverse corporate environment.
  3. Well-developed analytical ability and problem-solving skills in the collection and manipulation of spatial information.
  4. Demonstrated ability to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of various
  5. databases and GIS applications forming components of an enterprise geospatial ecosystem., including ability to train non-specialist users.
