Our client, a large Federal government department based in Barton, ACT, requires an experienced senior system administrator for a long 12 + 12 + 12 month contract. You will provide advanced systems administration services in support of critical government infrastructure.

Duties

• Installation, configuration, maintenance, and management of complex IT systems, ensuring their availability, security, and optimal performance.
• Strong experience managing and optimizing Windows Desktop environments.
• Experience working with government agencies or in highly regulated environments.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• System Administration, Security Management, System Monitoring.
• Troubleshooting and Support.
• Automation and Scripting.
• Backup and Disaster Recovery.
• Documentation and Reporting and Compliance.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Lead the administration, configuration, and maintenance of complex server environments, including both physical and virtual infrastructure, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.
• Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems and sensitive data.
• Perform regular security audits and patch management in accordance with government security protocols.
• Oversee the monitoring of systems to ensure reliability, performance, and capacity.
• Proactively identify potential issues and take corrective actions to prevent service disruptions.
• Advanced technical support for system issues, diagnosing and resolving complex problems related to operating systems, server environments, and IT infrastructure.
• Develop and implement automation scripts for system management tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell is highly desirable.
• Ensure effective backup solutions are in place and regularly tested.
• Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to safeguard critical data and services.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date system documentation, including configurations, system architectures, and processes.
• Prepare detailed reports on system performance and status for management and stakeholders.
