LODGE MANAGER – Cape York Peninsular Lodge

Position Purpose

The Lodge Manager is responsible for the overall management of the day-to-day operations of the Bamaga Motel and Cape York Peninsula Lodge (CYPL). This includes overseeing reception, hire cars, tours, housekeeping, maintenance, food and beverage services, and the Lodge facilities. The aim is to ensure the highest standard of service is consistently delivered across all areas.

This role is accountable for reporting on all operational aspects of the Lodge, with a strong focus on achieving optimal efficiency, increasing revenue, and reducing costs. A key part of the position is the management and development of all Lodge employees, fostering a workplace culture that prioritises exceptional guest satisfaction and team performance.

To be successful, the Lodge Manager must consistently represent the Lodge in a friendly, professional, and positive manner in all guest and business interactions. This is a proactive, hands-on role suited to someone who treats the Lodge as if it were their own business; taking initiative, solving problems, and leading by example.

Bamaga Enterprises Limited (BEL) is an indigenous community-owned not-for-profit public company. The company has objectives to its social, charitable, environmental and community development responsibilities with profits being re-invested back into the community by way of infrastructure development, sponsorship and donations.

BEL’s mission is to support the Bamaga and Northern Peninsular Area (NPA) community as it strives towards self-management and self-sufficiency. It achieves this by providing leadership regarding advocacy and a commitment to sustainable social, charitable, environmental and community development outcomes. It provides employment, infrastructure/facilitates, training and educational opportunities for the local community.

BEL was incorporated in April 2002 and currently operates 4 business units: Cape York Peninsula Lodge (CYPL) and Bamaga Motel, Bamaga Tavern, BP Bamaga Service Station and Bamaga Post Office. BEL also lease out the Bamaga Bakery /Snack Bar building.

CYPL is a gold medal winner in the recent ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Tourism Experiences’ at the Australian Tourism Awards in Adelaide last month. And have won awards in the 4-4.5 Star Deluxe Accommodation too.

Duties:

· Build organisational capability and a high-performance team

· Motivate and generate enthusiasm for innovation, exceeding expectations and providing exceptional delivery of services

· Provide clear leadership, direction and inspiration to motivate the employees

· Foster a supportive and co-operative work environment that recognises and rewards achievement

· Effectively acknowledge and address employee concerns as they arise upholding reporting, performance management and/or disciplinary policies and procedures

· Ensure all employees are inducted

· Develop skills and ability to address performance issues, identify training needs and undertake performance reviews

· Lead by example and promote organisational values and culture, and demonstrate accountability and a solutions-focused approach

· Manage professional development and industry experience for employees

· Manage and maintain effectiveness of IT and other essential in-house systems

· Continue to build the organisation’s reputation across the broader community

· Identify opportunities to increase revenue & profitability

· Identify potential new services

· Implement effective rostering procedures to ensure maximised cost effectiveness and efficiencies of human resources

· Identify and rectify operational and procedural inefficiencies impacting on cost inefficiencies

· Assist in the development of the annual budget and manage operations to meet set targets and objectives

· Report to the General Manager on the financial and operational status of the Lodge in respect of budget and operational objectives

· Ensure the smooth operations of the business in accordance with all organisational policies and procedures, to achieve set business plans, goals

and objectives.

· Maintain strict debtor controls, including tour debt.

· Ensure all customer transactions are accompanied by either payment or purchase order at the time of sale

· Identify potential new employees, retain, train and implement professional development and performance management for all employees

· Maximise the efficiency of human resources through effective employee management, rostering requirements and productivity.

· capacity through internal and external training, coaching and professional development

· Establish and promote a positive experience for guests in line with the organisation’s culture and vision

· Acknowledge guest concerns and feedback, and ensure that all complaints are dealt with appropriately in a manner that encourages return business with guests

· Compliance and Licencing

· Maintain compliance with all statutory requirements including workplace health and safety legislation, human resources and industrial relations legislation, privacy legislation and other legal requirements.
