Our government client based in the Eastern Suburbs, is seeking a driven Community Fire and Emergency Management Officer to join their busy team. Our client is seeking someone to commence as soon as possible through to December 2025. This will be a temporary contract arrangement with the expectation of working a full-time government working week of 37.5 hours.
Your new role
As a Community Fire and Emergency Management Officer, your responsibilities will include:
- Implement hazard reduction strategies within reserves and surrounding areas.
- Provide on-site assistance during prescribed burns.
- Develop and execute mitigation programs and maintain fire management infrastructure.
- Contribute to the delivery of effective emergency management preparedness activities.
- Assist in the administration and coordination of fire and emergency management efforts.
- Conduct site inspections and offer technical guidance related to bushfire planning policies, regulations, and standards.
- Act as a liaison for emergency incidents, including availability outside regular working hours when required.
- Offers timely advice and resources to property owners for reducing fire risks on their land.
- Participate in public and inter-agency meetings as necessary.
What you'll need to succeed
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work in a team environment
- Hold a current First Aid Certificate and fire control qualifications, including Fire Control Officer level.
- Experienced in planning, prevention, and response strategies for fire management.
- Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and resolve issues efficiently.
- Knowledgeable of interpreting and applying legislation
- Familiar with environmentally sensitive bushfire fuel reduction practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and database management.
