Your new company
A council based in Western Sydney is looking for a Senior Companion Animal Officer to join them on a contractual basis. You will be working alongside the council's full-time staff as a Hays employee.
Your new role
The Senior Companion Animal Officer in NSW plays a critical role in ensuring the welfare and responsible management of companion animals within the community. Our local government council, based in Western Sydney, is seeking an experienced Senior Companion Animal Officer or Team Leader of Animal Control Officers.
As a senior officer,
1. You will supervise and manage a team of Companion Animal Officers, providing daily guidance and support. You will ensure compliance with the Companion Animals Act 1998 and other relevant regulations, investigating breaches and taking appropriate action.
2. Investigate complaints related to companion animals, including dog attacks, nuisance issues (e.g., barking dogs), and other animal-related concerns.
3. Ensure the welfare of companion animals, including investigating complaints and implementing measures to prevent neglect or abuse.
4. Conduct proactive and reactive patrols and inspections in public areas to identify and address potential issue
5. Contribute to the development and implementation of local council companion animal management plans and programs.
6. Maintain accurate records and reporting on animal control activities.
What you'll need to succeed
Relevant Experience:
1. Experience in animal control, regulatory services, or related fields is essential.
Knowledge of Legislation:
2. Thorough knowledge of the Companion Animals Act 1998 and other relevant legislation is required.
Supervisory Skills:
3. Ability to effectively manage and supervise a team of officers.
Investigation Skills:
4. Strong investigative skills to effectively gather evidence and assess situations.
Communication Skills:
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with the public, other professionals, and members of the team.
Problem-Solving Skills:
6. Ability to identify and address complex issues in a timely and effective manner.
Driving Licence:
7. A Class C driver's license is required.
What you'll get in return
You will be paid well above the minimum award rate. You will work full-time hours from Monday to Friday on an ongoing basis. The contract could be ongoing depending on availability and performance.
