As we refine our GFSI-certified Carrum Downs facility, we’re looking for a hands-on Plant Maintenance/Mechanical Technician to ensure our machinery runs safely, smoothly, and efficiently. This role is ideal for a skilled and proactive technician with solid PLC and automation know-how, who thrives in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
This is a diverse, hands-on maintenance role where you'll work closely with the Production and QA/QC teams to deliver reliable and efficient equipment performance across more than 20 automated lines.
Your responsibilities include:
• Performing scheduled preventative and reactive maintenance
• Troubleshooting electrical and mechanical faults, including PLC systems
• Attending to machinery breakdowns and liaising with the operations team
• Supporting the installation, commissioning and optimisation of new equipment
• Refurbishing worn parts and cleaning machinery and associated components
• Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
• Monitoring and managing spare parts and consignment stock levels
• Providing regular maintenance reports to the Production Manager and GM - Operations
• Participating in daily, weekly, and monthly production meetings as required
• Completing all required documentation and reporting safety hazards promptly
About You:
You’re a skilled maintenance technician with experience in food or FMCG manufacturing who brings both technical expertise and a positive, can-do mindset. You’ll also bring:
Trade Certificate in Electrical or Mechanical (dual-trade advantageous) and/or
Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting and Machining) and/or licensed Electrician (Victoria)
Proven experience in hands-on industrial maintenance
Strong PLC fault finding and basic programming ability
Familiarity with food production equipment such as VFFS machines, multi-head weighers, conveyors, and sealers
Understanding of HACCP, GMP, OH&S, and GFSI compliance
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and reliability
Ability to adapt to wet, noisy, or variable environmental conditions
Your own reliable transport for onsite access
