Language Education Officer- Full Time

The Italian Language Centre (ILC), a division of Co.As.It. Community Services Ltd, is seeking a full time Language Education Officer who is an Italian native speaker, experienced and an enthusiastic language educator with exceptional organisational skills and great interpersonal skills. This is an office based position, working from home will not be available.

The ILC offers adult classes, after school hours and playgroup (girotondo) classes from its premises at 473 Lutwyche Road, Lutwyche.

ILC has been promoting and teaching of the Italian Language and culture since 1980. The Centre offers an ideal learning environment surrounded by native speakers employed by the organization as well as out of class activities for students to participate.

The Language Education Officer will be responsible for the following:

Promoting and coordinating adult classes, playgroup, after school classes and private one-on-one lessons

Develop programs for the adult language courses and after school hours’ courses

Promote and advertise the language programs

Keep website up to date with enrolment forms and information for students

Undertake interviews for selection of adult classes teachers

Prepare teachers agreements

Manage enrolments and allocations of classes

Assess students to place in correct class

Evaluation of classes

Respond to students' and general enquiries about ILC

Acquire text books for adult classes and support teachers with extra resources

Provide support and training to teachers

Analyze students' evaluation forms and implement changes

Promote public relations activities through written form eg media reports, newsletters, press release

Requirements of the position, Experience and Skills:

Applicant will have knowledge, experience and skills including familiarity with second language acquisition theories, effective teaching strategies and the ability to collaborate with ILC teachers and administration staff.

Excellent organizational skills

Out of hours’ work will be required at the commencement for semester classes

Understanding learning styles and teaching strategies

Recognizing diverse ways individuals learn

Ability to problem solve and to adapt quickly to new procedures

Knowledge of current practices and trends in the education and information technology sectors

Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

Ability to demonstrate management skills of high quality, exercising sound judgement, initiative, attention to detail and accuracy in the performance of work.

Integrity and ethical awareness due to confidentiality of records

Ability to use technology to implement systems to ensure efficiency in day to day operations

Qualifications

Formal qualifications in teaching/education programs or extensive experience in the adult language teaching sector

Bi-lingual Italian/English

Native/near native (C1) level of Italian

Proficiency in IT and Microsoft Office

Australian Resident

Driver’s License and own vehicle
