The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and deliver of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland.
About the Role?
As a Training Support Officer within our Pathways Our Way Academy (POWA) team and liaising with our newly established RTO, EMPOWA Training, you will support trainees to stay on track of their accredited training requirements and support them through their traineeship journey with a particular focus on our School-based traineeship trainees. This will entail a linkage program between key Secondary Schools, RTO’s and our POWA team. Our POWA traineeship programs expand across all of South-East Queensland.
- Work as part of the IUIH POWA team to ensure training supports the trainees, clients and community
- Provide one on one learner support in line with training plans, trainees need, working alongside traineeship coordinators, mentors and Trainers
- Conduct fortnightly face to face visits to monitor trainee progress and provide learner support
- Development of contextualised and scaffolded training materials to support training plans and specific program requirements
- Support and Empower trainees to overcome barriers to stay on track of their traineeship
- Work with the POWA team to design, develop, implement and update tools relevant to the support the trainees Journey
- Work with program coordinators and trainers to develop, update and review monthly training and assessment schedules and practical skills workshops
- Assist with the monitoring and report on the training support activities
- Development of contextualised and scaffolded training materials to support training plans and specific program or trainee requirements
- Support trainees and learners with identified literacy and numeracy or other learning needs
- Participate and contribute to peer coaching and support sessions with trainers, facilitators, supervisors and mentors
- Assist in the evaluation of training outcomes
About You?
Essentials:
- Current C Class Drivers Licence
- Criminal History Check (or willing to apply)
- Valid QLD Blue Card (must have prior to commencing employment)
- Willingness to travel across SEQ
- Qualification in educator or relevant experience in, mentoring, training or learning support
- Sound Knowledge of training/ mentoring programs including transition from school programs
- Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, their leaders and health professionals, while respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business.
- Demonstrated experience in working with students and/or trainees to achieve learning outcomes and employment outcomes relevant to industry
- Demonstrated ability to scaffold training materials to support trainees and learners to understand their training and assessment requirements .
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
