Production Engineer – Metal Fabrication

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Production Engineer with a background in metal fabrication to support and improve our manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for optimising fabrication processes, supporting daily production activities, implementing continuous improvement projects, and ensuring product quality and efficiency on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, evaluate, and improve metal fabrication processes including cutting, bending, welding, machining, and assembly.

Create and maintain work instructions, process flow documentation, and production layouts.

Collaborate with design and engineering teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.

Support the introduction of new parts, assemblies, and products into production, ensuring proper tooling, fixturing, and process flow.

Troubleshoot production issues and provide technical support to operators and supervisors.

Work with Quality and Maintenance teams to reduce scrap, downtime, and rework.

Drive lean manufacturing initiatives such as 5S, standard work, and waste reduction.

Ensure compliance with safety standards, material specifications, and industry regulations.

Evaluate equipment investments and support the commissioning of new equipment.

Assist in ERP data entry and production tracking (e.g., BOMs, routings, time standards).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in a metal fabrication or similar manufacturing environment.

• Strong understanding of fabrication techniques (MIG/TIG welding, CNC machining, automation etc)

• Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and manufacturing tools.

• Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001).

• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

• Ability to work on the shop floor and interface with all levels of production staff.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., M1, JobBOSS, Epicor).

• Familiarity with welding standards and metal specifications (e.g., ASTM, AWS).

• Hands-on experience with process automation or CNC programming is a plus.

• Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification is advantageous.
