About the team:
The Enterprise Infrastructure Operations & Cloud team support the functions of cloud infrastructure and cloud operations along with other core platforms utilised across the Department of Customer Service, Government Shared Services. The team supports a platform of approximately 24,000 users across a mix between multi-cloud environments and on-prem datacentres.
The team is a dynamic and skilled group of professionals dedicated to ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our infrastructure, network systems and cloud platforms. The team plays a crucial role in maintaining the backbone of the organisation's IT environment. Working collaboratively to solve complex challenges and drive continuous improvement in system performance, the team is passionate about innovation, and members are encouraged to contribute their ideas, learn from each other, and take ownership of their work.
As the Technology Manager, you will collaborate with the leadership team to oversee daily operations of the Enterprise Infrastructure Operations and Cloud team. Your role will involve strategic planning and optimisation of our multi-cloud infrastructure, driving continuous improvements in tools and processes, and implementing innovative solutions to enhance performance, scalability, efficiency, and operational excellence.
Your day-to-day:
The Technology Manager will be primarily responsible for leading the RUN model while ensuring the smooth operation and optimisation of the organisation's infrastructure and network systems.
On a day-to-day basis, this role focuses heavily on people leadership providing guidance, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative environment where the team can thrive.
The manager will work closely with infrastructure engineers, network administrators, and IT specialists to ensure they have the necessary tools, skills, and support to perform at their best. They will be involved in managing performance, offering constructive feedback, and helping with professional development through coaching, training, and career growth opportunities.
Additionally, the manager will facilitate communication between team members, ensuring alignment with organisational goals, and promoting a culture of innovation and accountability.
Although the role requires solid technical expertise to ensure the infrastructure is functioning at optimal levels, the core focus is on team leadership and development.
The Technology Manager will guide the team through complex technical challenges while ensuring they have the autonomy to solve problems and make decisions. They will also serve as a key point of contact for cross-functional teams, ensuring clear communication between IT and other business units. The manager will prioritise the creation of a positive team dynamic, fostering trust and collaboration, while ensuring that all technical initiatives are aligned with the organisation's strategic objectives.
In this role, leadership is about empowering the team to excel, providing them with direction and support, and cultivating a sense of ownership and pride in the infrastructure they maintain.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Assist in managing and optimising enterprise infrastructure and cloud systems by handling operational tasks, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring high availability and performance. Monitor and alert systems for quick incident response and risk mitigation across networks and cloud infrastructure.
- Partner with the leadership team on strategic initiatives, introducing innovative solutions to optimise infrastructure, observability, and automation. Explore and adopt AI-driven technologies to enhance insights, automate workflows, and drive efficiencies.
- Spearhead the development and implementation of observability strategies, ensuring comprehensive monitoring and real-time visibility into cloud infrastructure, networks, and services. Implement tools to proactively detect and resolve issues, using a data-driven approach to optimise reliability, performance, and incident management.
- Lead cloud cost optimisation by identifying opportunities for resource rightsizing, waste reduction, and efficient scaling. Implement and maintain cost management tools to ensure cost-effective use of cloud resources while meeting performance, security, and scalability requirements.
- Support the management of large-scale infrastructure and cloud projects, offering leadership as needed to ensure their successful and efficient delivery.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance internal tools, processes, and workflows to boost operational efficiency, minimise manual intervention, and support scalability.
- Collaborate with the team to adopt DevOps best practices, implement continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and introduce other process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Assist in creating and technically evaluating Go-to-Market RFP responses, collaborating with internal and procurement teams to deliver competitive, well-informed proposals. Manage vendor relationships to ensure the implementation and delivery of the right tools, platforms, and services meet expectations.
