The role of the Academic Support Coordinator specifically aims to support students’ course progression to achieve the academic outcomes required for course completion, for all courses taught at the School of Health. Reporting directly to the Academic Governance Manager, the Academic Support Coordinator (ASC) will work closely with educators to identify students not meeting the required outcomes of course progression.
The position will work closely with the Associate Course Coordinator and Nursing Program and Placement Manager to implement support plans and intervention strategies and will be responsible for identifying internal and external support strategies required by individual students, including but not limited to LLN, medication calculations, assessment writing, study skills and clinical skills. The position will also work closely with the Academic Governance Manager in supporting students who have recorded an Academic Integrity breach.
Your key responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to:
• Responsible for the support of students not meeting course progression including the following key tasks: Development of reasonable adjustment plans, Development of student informal support plans, Approval of third attempts for assessments, Issuing of alerts (behavioural or academic), Development of intervention strategies in liaison with the educators and students, Development of clinical challenge plans for at-risk students on clinical placement.
• Management of suspensions and cancellations as per the School’s policy. To meet regularly with the Associate Course Coordinator to monitor and update student course progression.
• To identify and manage the referral to external support services for Academic and LLN needs of the student population. To set up a schedule of coaching conversations using academic coaches, to support students to progress through to course completion.
• Managing the team of academic coaches to support students on intervention strategies with academic coaching, study skills and Literacy and Numeracy support.
• Manage the rostering and coordination of small group work with students struggling with assessment writing, medication calculations and clinical skill revision, through drop-in and academic coaching session. Support of students who have been identified as breaching the Academic Integrity policy in liaison with the Academic Governance Manager to ensure breaches are documented and monitored as per the School’s policy.
• Referring underperforming students in clinical skills to the Clinical Skills RNs to work in small groups and individually on targeted skill support.
• Development and implementation of continuous improvement of student support processes

• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
• Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team.
• Well-developed communication (written, verbal and listening), interpersonal and facilitation skills, to develop effective relationships and provide advice and support to students, business leaders and staff.
• Demonstrated time management and organisational skills to effectively plan, prioritise and complete individual work activity to required standards.
• Demonstrated computer literacy in word processing, databases, calendar, and email management as well as presentation and collaborative workspace software to create effective documentation and communications.
• A high priority of professional presentation, effective communication, and customer service.
Qualifications including:
• Hold a tertiary or equivalent qualification in Nursing.
• Hold a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110 plus upgrade or TAE40116) or higher qualification.
Experience in:
Experience in mentoring, teaching and managing small groups of students
Supporting and mentoring students in a tertiary setting
Administrative and/or student support roles in the adult education industry
Experience in supporting LLN in student populations
Ability to respect confidentiality and privacy obligations, and the importance of procedural fairness and comprehensive record keeping.
Working with culturally diverse customers and staff.
