We are looking for an exceptional individual to play a vital role in managing the day-to-day responsibilities of support workers, ensuring that all care for the young lady they support is aligned with our mission and values. She is an active young lady who enjoys going to the gym, horse riding and many water sports. She also has an emerging micro business making pet treats. Effervescent, empathetic and energetic, she is known as the “Enthusiastic Humanist” who teaches us all about the authentic and important things in life The Team Leader will ensure she is supported to live a safe, healthy and comfortable lifestyle in her own home.
This staff development and mentorship role requires someone compassionate who can effectively oversee the support team. The Team Leader will provide quality control while ensuring there are opportunities for support staff to develop and implement new skills. They will check in regularly with staff to evaluate strategies and monitor the progress being made towards the young lady’s goals.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a values-based approach and demonstrate a deep understanding of working with people with disabilities and their families. They will be committed to the young lady’s vision for her life and will have experience with self-directed arrangements. They will also be committed and accountable to her family. The Team Leader will be instrumental in mentoring staff, fostering professional development, and ensuring ethical and accountable support delivery.
Team Leader responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the individual and her support network
- Support her vision to pursue a unique lifestyle by assisting with the management & implementation of her supports
- Oversee the management and implementation of support systems
- Assist in the development and revision of the way that support is provided with guidance and input from the individual and her family
- Provide supervision, support, encouragement, mentorship and guidance to team members
- Ensure that goal-oriented support is delivered ethically in line with mission and values, and with accountability to the family
- Provide guidance in developing intentional safeguards to ensure wellbeing and dignity
- Use clear, efficient and timely communication channels to streamline operations
Key Qualities:

- Knowledge of and capabilities with development and use of adaptive technology and software such as visual calendars etc
Selection Criteria:
- A high level of knowledge, values and skills gained through previous experience and/or qualifications in community support services
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of what makes ethical support for a good life and the implications of behaviour support
- Sound interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people and in a variety of situations, and to work as a member of a team
- Both the ability to work independently and to inspire, motivate, mentor and supervise a team of support workers
- Ability to think creatively and developmentally to support a young woman to live, work and contribute to her community
- Experience and knowledge of continuous improvement processes and implementation within a small self-directed model.
Essential Requirements:
- 3 years’ experience managing a team, staff or a business
- Sound knowledge of performance management
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Exceptional time management and organisational skills
- Flexibility to work off site, with availability to work on site on a regular basis, and to extend working hours as required
- Experience or knowledge of Behaviour Support Practices and working with allied health
- Previous experience as a support worker and understanding of high and complex care (behaviour support) is an advantage
- Competency in use of mobile and computer software including Microsoft 365, Teams and OneDrive
- Availability and skills to undertake emergency shifts when necessary
- Open Driver's License and own, fully insured vehicle
- Current Police Check / National Police Certificate (or willing to obtain)
- ABN + Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurances
- Current First Aid and CPR (or willing to obtain)
- Willing to commit to the role long term
- Live within reasonable travelling distance
Shifts:
Hours will be flexible and at times fluctuate, especially during recruitment and onboarding of new staff. The successful candidate will be offered 10 - 15 hours per week negotiable
Pay Rate: Contracted flat rate $55 per hour
*This job is offered as a contracted position for a sole trader, with a probationary period of 3 months and the responsibilities that fall under the category of the SCHADS award Level 4.
*The role has potential to grow and develop into a service (for one) management position to enable the parent Nominee to delegate and eventually relinquish these responsibilities.
