The Rising Sun Hotel has stood proudly on the corner of Burnley and Swan since the 1800s, a true Richmond institution and a pub with stories to tell. Now, under new ownership from the team behind the Royal Oak Hotel (Fitzroy North) and The Sporting Club Hotel (Brunswick), we’re breathing fresh life into this beloved boozer and looking for a Duty Managers to help shape and support its next era.​

The Venue
The Rising Sun will be a true local’s pub, the kind of place that draws people in for a quick pint, a long lunch, and everything in between. With doors open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, the focus is on classic, flavour-driven Australian pub fare.​ With local and imported beer taps, Australian focused wine list and an off-premises license there is something for everyone.

The Role
We’re looking for a Duty Manager who embodies the publican spirit. The kind of person who remembers names and how someone takes their pint.

You understand that pubs aren’t just places to eat and drink, they’re the beating heart of a community. You’ll help run the daily front-of-house operations, making sure everything hums smoothly and the welcome is warm. Working alongside the Venue Manager and Assistant Venue Manager, you’ll uphold high service standards, support the team, and lead with the kind of presence that makes regulars out of first-timers.

Key Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Team Leadership & Mentoring: Lead by example, developing junior staff, and fostering a collaborative, well-supported team environment.​

Customer Service: Monitor service standards to ensure exceptional guest experiences and handle group bookings and functions.​

Operational Excellence: Daily open or closing checklist. Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of F&B areas to high standards and ensure all responsible service of alcohol regulations are strictly followed.​

Cash Handling & Security: Responsible for fiscal cash-up and securing venue takings as required.​

Staff Training & Development: Train and supervise staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures.​

Who We’re Looking For

At least two years in a Manager or similar leadership role.​

Confident leader, able to rally a team, maintain high standards, and handle the heat.​

Business-minded, capable of managing operations, staff, and efficiency.​

Experienced in hospitality systems, including stock control, sequence of service, DEPUTY, OpenTable, OrderMate and compliance.​

A deep love for food and drink with WSET Level 2 being a strong advantage. But, if you simply love wine, talk about it with ease, and know your way around a well-balanced list, we’re listening.

Full Time Salary: $70K–$75Kpa (Superannuation on top)
