The opportunity
Our Natural Systems team have a 12-month parental leave opportunity available for commencement from June 2025, for an Environmental Planning Team Leader.
As the Environmental Planning Team Leader, you will play a critical role in overseeing and guiding the environmental planning process in the provision of specialised biodiversity and environmental advice to Council in relation to Development Applications, Planning Proposals and Capital Works Projects to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
You will also provide input to State Significant Projects and other various Council environmental strategies and projects. The role is heavily focused on biodiversity assessment, with the critical review of BDARs an essential part of the role.
This is a contract opportunity – working full-time 35 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement
Base Salary Range: $96,545 to $113,583 pa based on 35 hours / week + 11.5% superannuation + $18,619.29 motor vehicle allowance + $2,312 retention allowance
You will be working from PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace

Deliver high-quality planning services.
Support and mentor the Biodiversity Assessment Officer.
Provide leadership and advice on Development Applications and Planning Proposals in respect to biodiversity and environmental management issues, including the review of BDARs.
Provide advice on environmental impact assessment, environmental compliance and environmental management for Council operations, including the review of REFs.
Coordinate with internal teams.
Provide strategic input into the development and implementation of environmental policies and programs.

Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or demonstrated equivalent
Significant experience in ecology and/or environmental planning
Strong understanding of environmental legislation and policy
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Ability to mentor and inspire a team to deliver excellent results
Current NSW Government Biodiversity Assessment Method Assessor Accreditation
Demonstrated experience in reviewing biodiversity assessments as they relate to the development and environmental impact assessment process
Current driver’s licence
