About the Role
Environmental Operations branch is responsible for the preservation, management and enhancement of council’s diverse range of environmental and recreational assets and in partnership with our community, the rich biodiversity of the region’s landscapes. The branch plays an active role within council, liaising with other units, as well as with the community to maintain and deliver high quality environmental outcomes.
The Coastal Conservation and Planning Team Leader will be responsible to manage and support projects in relation to coastal conservation, coastal planning, obtain permits and approvals related to operational activities and capital projects, deliver community consultation and educational programs, facilitate community partnership development and assist with business and service planning for the Environmental Operations (EO) Branch
Key duties:
Provide leadership, direction and support to a multi-disciplinary Environmental Operations team, including but not limited to:
Create an environment that fosters team development and the personal/professional growth of individuals whilst consistently achieving results.
Contribute to the development of workforce and succession planning.
Establish and maintain Job Planning & Performance Reviews for all staff to develop and maintain a culture which demonstrates a strong commitment to workplace health and safety, risk management, continuous improvement and quality systems.
Make a proactive contribution to the development and implementation of initiatives of the Environmental Operations Leadership team, and
Work closely and in an integrated manner with others within the LaNA Group and other Groups as required.
Lead the provision of technical advice and undertake supporting investigations for the effective planning of a broad range of coastal and foreshore management issues including (but not limited to) beach erosion, beach nourishment, dredging activities, foreshore and dune management and restoration, and general coastal zone management.
Manage the delivery and efficient management of all coastal permits as they relate to both capital and operational programs, including whole of system coastal permits for Pumicestone Passage, Maroochy River and Mooloolah River.
Coordinate and manage environmental initiatives and programs including but not limited to: Coastal and Environmental Education programs, Beach Clean-Up program, Shorebird Conservation Program, urban bull shark management, invasive fish investigations, delivery of offsets (including blue carbon), marine and coastal fauna and flora management and climate related marine species migration.
About you
As a Coastal Conservation and Planning Team leader, you will:
Possess a formal relevant qualification (Degree) in a relevant field such as Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Coastal or Environmental Planning, or Coastal Management, and/or relevant substantial experience.
Substantial knowledge of relevant Local, State and Federal Government Environmental Legislation and multi-agency permit process, with extensive demonstrated experience undertaking environmental evaluations, audits and reporting.
High level of knowledge associated with coastal fauna and flora management including seagrass, wader birds, bull sharks etc.
Proficiency in the preparation of professional business correspondence, reports, documents, and other communication with demonstrated ability to operate effectively with relevant business technologies including mobile devices, Microsoft office suite, and other online or electronic systems, applications and corporate reporting programs.

Current QLD. Working with Children Blue Card
Current Driver’s Licence ‘C’ class.
