The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Project Director, Redress and Confiscation Operations to provide a critical role within the Victim Services Support and Reform unit.
About the Business Unit
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) leads the delivery of justice services in Victoria. The department's overarching vision is for a safe, just, innovative and thriving Victoria.
The National Redress Scheme (NRS), Historical Forced Adoption Redress Scheme (HFA) and Asset Confiscation Office (ACO) teams sit within the VSSR Victim Support branch and role reports to the Director, Victim Support. As a technical expert, the role will work closely with executives and teams across VSSR, the department and key stakeholders
The NRS team is the central coordination point for the Victorian Government's participation in the National Redress Scheme which acknowledges that many children were sexually abused in Australian institutions; holds institutions accountable for this abuse, and helps people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse gain access to counselling, a direct personal response, and a redress payment.
About the Role
As the executive lead for NRS, HFA and ACO, this position will focus on ensuring that there are appropriate governance and accountability processes in place to deliver of the schemes in accordance with their objectives and DJCS, Commonwealth and VPS requirements. This will require a combination of project and policy expertise, sound financial administration, risk management, and compliance with departmental delegations, risk frameworks and legislative obligations.
As the Project Director, Redress and Confiscation Operations, some of your duties will include:
- Leading and managing dynamic and multidisciplinary operational teams across NRS, HFA and ACO to effectively promote a values-based culture of achievement and respect and a common sense of purpose in line with strategic direction.
- Providing authoritative advice and leading preparation of briefs for senior executives and all levels of Government on complex policy and operational issues.
- Influencing and negotiating with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve whole of Government positions and outcomes in a complex and sensitive policy environment.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex legislative frameworks and provide advice and make decisions that align with legislative requirements and guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to lead negotiations with stakeholders on a range of technical issues in order deliver on scheme objectives and improve outcomes.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years' experience in management, overseeing complex service delivery and or functions. A tertiary qualification in law, social work, psychology, criminal justice or public administration is desirable.
