High-impact opportunity for a technically strong risk professional to lead working reports & analysis of interest rate and liquidity risk in a growing, purpose-led financial institution.

This role offers exposure to ALCO, Board and various internal committees. Strong hands on experience required to execute regulatory readiness as the bank crosses the $20bn threshold.

Ideal for someone with data fluency (SQL), financial market knowledge, excellent communication & hands on!

The Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to step into a critical role within a values-driven bank approaching a significant $20bn regulatory threshold. The organisation is known for its customer-first approach, long-term stability, and commercially progressive risk culture. They're a high performing team with a lean team of six in this Market Risk Function.

In this role, you will have a direct line of sight to the key decisions shaping the bank's future. This is not a back-office, policy-heavy function. It is a hands-on, high-trust environment where your input matters and your insights land directly in front of Executive and Board stakeholders. You will work closely with Senior Managers and the Head of Market Risk and will be expected to bring relevant hands on experience to continue to add value to this organisations needs.

A truly Hybrid Environment with an excellent culture both internally and digitally. A healthy salary package and career progression opportunity in a diverse, highly motivated business where people are at the forefront of everything.

The Role
Reporting to the Head of Market Risk Senior Manager, this is a second-line oversight role supporting the full scope of market and financial risk activities. You will partner across Treasury, Finance, ALCO, Product teams and Internal Committee's to provide informed challenges, insight, and uplift as the bank transitions through a material growth phase in a highly APRA regulated environment.

This is a highly commercial role where you will work closely with senior stakeholders to strengthen frameworks, shape strategy, and guide decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership - Accountable for contributing to the day-to-day operations of your team, including independently driving balance sheet analytics and insights which result in improved balance sheet management. As a key member of the Risk Management team, you will lead, mentor, support and advise others across our business as they learn and grow in their roles across the Lines of Defence model.
  • Risk Oversight - Develop a thorough understanding of the regulatory requirements, processes, systems, and models used to monitor and make decisions about our financial risks. You will support first line risk management to identify and analyse key risk measures and provide an independent view of whether the business is in control including analysing the risk framework, process and model design to ensure it is fit for purpose and working as intended. In turn you will be providing the Executive and Board with confidence that they are making well-informed decisions in the best interests of our customers.
  • Risk Reporting - Develop, produce and/or contribute to regular and ad-hoc risk reporting as is required for regulators, boards, committees, executive management, and leadership teams. You will oversee that all risk events are accurately recorded, managed, monitored, escalated, and reported upon. You prepare and produce risk insights that identify trends, patterns and concentration to interpret changes to the risk profile and high inherent risks that would have a material impact for Great Southern Bank. This will require you to lead targeted pieces of work to facilitate effective Risk Management reporting and engagement with Management and the Board.
  • Continuous Improvement - You will confidently challenge yourself, teammates and other colleagues in constructive ways that drive better outcomes. Through professional networks, education and training, or independent research you will introduce new thinking to the team. You will work within the team to review each others work and ensure the delivery of high-quality outputs.

The Team and Culture
The team has six high performing professionals based in Brisbane and Sydney with backgrounds in Big 4, Large Banks and Financial Institutions. They're truly agile, collaborative, hard working and well-respected. You will work alongside senior analysts and managers who value an attitude of no task is too small, strong commercial thinking, and technical depth in data, financial markets and the regulatory frameworks they operate in. The culture is hybrid, high-trust, and execution-focused, with flexibility balanced by strong shared accountability.

This team knows that to get the best out of you, they need to manage expectations, empower accountability and flexability for you to work autonomously and with the team.

Leaders are visible and accessible, and the team is known for open dialogue, low ego, and clarity of expectations. There is room to stretch here, both in scope and influence as you progress in the months and years with this client of ours.

Who You Are

Most important is your attitude. You are humble, you have little ego and you hold yourself to high standards with your values, your work and how you interact with your team and the wider business. This role is hands on, it is not a role where you merely review, strategise and delegate, yes there are elements of this but you are expected to get stuck into BAU and Ad-hoc tasks driving the work and executing at a standard acceptable for the environment you are in.

You are a technically strong risk professional who combines financial markets knowledge with data fluency and practical experience in Interest Rate Risk Modelling, Analysis and Reporting. You are well-versed in interest rate risk concepts and balance sheet dynamics, and understand the regulatory landscape of a bank operating at scale. You enjoy working in the detail but can also step back and present clear, commercially useful insights.

You have worked with Treasury, Financial and Market Risk Teams, can navigate data warehouses confidently, and know your way around tools like SQL and Databricks. You know what good looks like when it comes to financial risk frameworks, and you're comfortable challenging assumptions in the room.

You likely come from a banking or broader financial services background, and you're now looking to step into a role where your technical and commercial skill-sets are equally valued.

What You Bring

Self-managed and self-motivated attitude, with a strong drive for results and outcomes. Highly analytical, data-driven and skilled at identifying and communicating key information. Organised, love working at pace, managing multiple projects, processes and people. An effective communicator, both verbal and written, with strong skills in writing policy and advice.

Technically your experience should not look too dissimilar to the below;

  • 7+ year's experience in a similar role within the Financial Services sector
  • Working within a three lines of defence model for managing risk
  • Proven experience in driving balance sheet analytics and being able to independently deliver outcomes.
  • Analysis of a range of financial instruments from an interest rate, liquidity, credit or financial risk perspective
  • Experience in managing and influencing multi-faceted stakeholders (internal and external) in order to meet competing priorities, different needs, and non-aligned expectations
  • Ability to build strong relationships at all levels to clearly communicate good risk management practices
  • Knowledge of relevant financial services regulatory and compliance considerations
  • Strategic thinking and ability to deliver solutions to risk issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Why Join
Ah the Golden Question! Well not only will you learn so much in an industry that is challenging and rapidly evolving, digitally changing. This business has been growing and has had an amazing change in strategy that has seen them level up to true Tier 1 status.

You will be stepping into a role that directly shapes how this bank navigates growth. You will be part of a team that values rigour, candour, and getting into the detail, and you will be trusted to deliver real outcomes. There is room here to grow, to step up into more senior risk leadership roles, and to influence across the organisation.

You will be supported by leaders who know their craft, encouraged to bring ideas forward, and backed when it counts. This is the kind of team where your contribution is recognised, and your impact is visible. It is a great role for someone who wants to step out of the shadows and into a place where their voice carries weight.
