Position summary
This role will manage and maintain Health, Safety and Wellbeing functions and frameworks across Cultura. Working with department heads and staff to implement initiatives and structure that will provide clear health and safety guidelines for a safer and more inclusive work environment.
Working closely with the General Manager People & Culture (P&C) this position is accountable for the development, implementation and evaluation of health and safety initiatives and will provide important input into the P&C Department’s performance against the strategic and operational goals in the Cultura Strategic Plan.
The Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager will provide a leadership role to staff and stakeholders of Cultura and is responsible for providing operational and technical support and guidance to ensure the safety and wellbeing of employees, contractors and visitors to our sites.
This role will work across all of our locations to identify hazards, assess risks and identify appropriate solutions and controls. It will be the first point of contact for information, advice and guidance in relation to relevant safety legislation in each of the jurisdictions in which Cultura operates.
This role forms a vital part of Cultura’s duty of care in providing a safe workplace to its most important stakeholders, our employees, and is responsible for the management of return to work systems for Cultura’s injured workers.
Duties
- Continue to develop and maintain the Health & Safety requirements of the P&C department and operational goals, aligned with the Cultura Strategic Plans where relevant
- Provide leadership in the design, development and monitoring of Health & Safety systems
- Coordinate specialist advice and assist leaders and employees to support them in managing health and safety in their work locations, this includes the active promotion of health and safety through role modelling, interactive informative sessions and training initiatives that result in measurable improved compliance
- Be the contact for staff needing to lodge WorkCover claims and undertake the associated administration processes
- Liaise with workers compensation insurers as required
- Manage the RTW duties and act as the first point of contact for injured workers
- Lead the staff representative health and safety committees in an organized, professional and compliant manner as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004
- Ensure that appropriate coverage of Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) are managed and appropriately trained throughout the geographical areas of Cultura
- Respond to external organizational stakeholders such as WorkSafe, EML Insurers, Unions and others as required in a timely, collaborative and professional manner that assists with Cultura’s ability to build strong professional relationships with relevant external partners
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Formal training and qualifications in Health and Safety and Return to Work certification
- Experience in managing the legal obligations of injured workers and liaising with external bodies such as WorkSafe, Rehabilitation providers and insurers
- Experience in the coordination of Health and Safety and/ or organisational wellbeing Programs
- Experience in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety management systems and contributing to a culture of wellbeing
Desirable
- Degree or post-grad qualifications in Health and Safety or a relevant field
- Experience working with International Standards (ISO) in a workplace
- Membership of relevant community organisations, professional associations or peak bodies
- Experience with or understanding of the migrant experience in Australia, with empathy and sensitivity to the needs of people and their families from different cultural backgrounds
