The Opportunity

At Wollongong City Council, we are dedicated to delivering and supporting exceptional events that inspire and engage our community. We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Events Support Officer to join our team.

You will work with the Events Team to support a range of events, from initial planning to post-event evaluation. You will also assist in the assessment of event applications, filming and photography requests and administering Council's Financial Assistance Policy.

This is a permanent full-time position, salary from $81,646.61 per annum plus superannuation (salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications). This role will include weekend or over-time work based on operational requirements. Applicants should be suitably fit to undertake the duties as outlined in the job description.

How you'll make a difference

You will play a pivotal role in creating a vibrant Wollongong by supporting the Events Team with coordinating and delivering a variety of Council events and functions throughout our city including, New Year's Eve celebrations, Australia Day community event, and civic receptions. You will work closely with the Office of the Lord Mayor to deliver official openings, Sister City receptions, and other civic functions that contribute to the vibrancy of Wollongong.

You will also:

  • plan, budget, and deliver a range of civic functions and small to medium-sized community events on behalf of the organisation
  • ensure effective communication with internal and external stakeholders regarding events and functions
  • coordinate Council's Sister City program and administer the Financial Assistance Policy
  • Process permits for filming and photography under delegated authority, making sure that all requests portray Wollongong in a positive light and are communicated effectively with relevant Council staff
  • process and assess event applications, liaising with event organisers and key stakeholders to ensure all requirements are met
  • provide a high standard of event support, including reporting, contributing to policy reviews, developing event documentation, and drafting correspondence

About you

You bring experience providing event management support, including planning and executing small and medium-sized events. Your strong administrative and communication skills will enable you to manage event-related processes, including Council's Financial Assistance Policy, event applications, and filming applications. You excel at coordinating, organising and prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.

You are able to juggle a variety of tasks and projects at any given time. Being able to coordinate, organise and prioritise tasks, as well as meeting competing deadlines is your superpower.
