About the Roles
These roles provide research contract administration, management and support services to Flinders University researchers and other key stakeholders.
The Research Contracts Officer is responsible for collaborative research agreements, services agreements, research project variations, confidentiality agreements for research purposes and IP sharing with external parties, memoranda of understanding with industry or other research institutions, material transfer agreements and subcontracting arrangements with government, industry, and other research institutions.
This role is also responsible for:
- Reviewing and negotiating the terms and conditions of research related agreements with industry, government, and other research institutions.
- Preparing and negotiating the terms and conditions of student or status holder Intellectual Property agreements.
- Reviewing and providing advice to researchers on contractual obligations, special conditions or restrictions, or programmatic and other deliverables required by specific funding schemes.
- Working with the other members of the Research Development and Support team to identify, define and resolve issues related to sponsored project contracting activities in accordance with Commonwealth or State government, or other funding bodies, institutional policies, and regulations.
The Research Support Assistant contributes to the efficient operations of the Research Contracts team and provides research administration support and assistance to researchers associated with the processing of research contracts, research data capture and integrity and the communication of research activities and capabilities.
This is achieved by:
- Providing support to the Manager, Research Contracts and Senior Research Contracts Officer to administer research contract related services.
- Performing administrative tasks associated with the processing of research contracts.
- Contributing to the efficient and accurate management of the integrity of research management databases, and reporting from such databases.
- Contributing to a pro-active and positive customer service culture and goals of the University, promoting a culture of service excellence.

This team, together with the Research Development and Support (RDS) and the Office of Graduate Research (OGR) Teams provide leadership and support to achieve the University's research goals.

The Research Development and Support (RDS) Team works with Flinders researchers, Colleges, Institutes and Centres, other portfolios and external stakeholders to proactively support research.
The Office of Graduate Research (OGR) Team provides support, expertise and guidance for prospective and enrolled HDR students, HDR supervisors and Colleges through each stage of candidature and professional development.
About You

Your high-level attention to detail and excellent time management skills allow you to prioritise tasks within a team of professionals, to meet tight deadlines.
The Research Contracts Officer can demonstrate:
- Expertise in research contract management and administration, including drafting, negotiating, reviewing and administration of research contracts and other related documents in a complex environment.
- Contemporary knowledge of, and experience working in, the Australian research landscape, including knowledge of compliance requirements for major grant funding schemes such as ARC and NHMRC.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercise initiative and judgment in interpreting and applying a range of policies and procedures and work with a broad range of stakeholders, such as academic and professional staff.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Microsoft Excel, document/record management systems and a relevant research management system.
You will also have completed tertiary qualifications with subsequent relevant experience or significant experience and specialist expertise in research contract administration.
The Research Support Assistant can demonstrate:
- Effective to well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills, together with proven ability to liaise and engage with a broad range of stakeholders.
- The ability to apply informed judgement to analytical and problem-solving skills across multiple
- Acute time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet required
- Well-developed computing skills in using office computer applications, including the Microsoft office suite, web pages and databases.
You will also have completed a degree or possess an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.
