About the role:
An exciting opportunity is now available for a female peer educator ( AOD Prevention & Intervention) to join the Youth Services team at Family Outreach Service.
The position is based at our Pembroke Street site in Broome, and regular day trips as well as occasional overnight travel will be required. A 12 month fixed term contract is available with possibility of extension.
You will be required to:
Mentor young people, assisting them to set and achieve their goals and dreams and acts as a positive role model for Kimberley youth.
Engage with youth who are dealing with challenges in life and advocate for them.
As part of a team, assist in the consultation process undertaken with local communities and provide holistic education on social and emotional wellbeing, suicide prevention, alcohol and other drugs.
Collaborate with relevant health and education professionals, and government and non- government agencies, Aboriginal groups and communities in assisting the development, implementation and facilitation of alcohol and drug treatment, prevention programs/plans and culturally appropriate education and training programs.
Participate in multi-disciplinary case conferences and team meetings as appropriate.
Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion projects (including resource development) aimed at reducing alcohol and other drug related harm.
Support local community groups to respond to issues relating to alcohol and drugs.
Undertakes other duties, staff development and training as required by line manager and senior management.
Successful applicants will ideally have:
Ability to work with young Indigenous people and within community groups.
Experience in facilitating workshops and health promotion or confidence to learn.
High level interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, ability and willingness to use a computer, and basic skills in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Demonstrated ability to self-manage one’s own mental wellbeing.
Availability to work in Kimberley areas outside of Derby/Halls Creek and other work-related travel.
Requirements and relevant information:
Applicants must hold a ‘C’ class drivers' license with no restrictions

What we offer:
$91,700 per annum (pro rata), 5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading, SGC superannuation, Not For Profit generous salary packaging, anniversary payment after 12 months of employment, additional 3 days leave at Christmas, access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and study opportunities.
