The Role:

We are seeking motivated and experienced Disability Support Workers to join our dedicated team. Supporting individuals with mental and physical disabilities, you will play a crucial role in providing compassionate and person-centred care in the life of the people that you support. The purpose of the role is to assist clients in reaching maximum independence and improving their quality of life by supporting and building capacity with daily living activities, emotional support, and social engagements, helping them develop essential life skills and participate actively in their communities.

This rewarding role requires empathy, patience and a strong commitment to promoting the well-being and autonomy of individuals with disabilities.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

Personal Care Assistance: Offer person-centred support to clients, with personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, and grooming according to individual needs and preferences.

Medication Management: Administer medications as prescribed and ensure adherence to medication schedules, while maintaining accurate records.

Daily Living Support: Assist individuals with disabilities in performing daily activities such as meal preparation, feeding, housekeeping, and maintaining a safe and clean-living environment.

Emotional Support: Foster a positive and supportive environment by actively listening, offering companionship, and engaging in conversation to address emotional needs and promote mental well-being.

Care Planning: Collaborate with clients, their families, and healthcare professionals to develop and implement personalised care plans that align with their goals and abilities.

Mobility Assistance: Provide support with transferring, positioning, and mobility aids, ensuring safety and comfort for clients with physical disabilities.

Community Integration: Encourage community involvement and socialisation by accompanying clients to appointments, recreational activities, and events, as appropriate.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care provided, including progress notes, incident reports, risk assessments, changes in the individual's condition and any documents that are requested by EDHCS.

Health Monitoring: Observe and report any changes in the individual's health or behaviour to the appropriate healthcare professionals or family members.

Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.

Skills & Experience

Proven Experience: 2 years plus in providing support to individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities. Demonstrate a track record of excellence in disability support services, showcasing your skills and expertise in caring for individuals with diverse needs.

Qualifications: Hold a Certificate III or higher qualification in Disability Support or a related field, demonstrating your commitment to professional development.

National Police Crime Check

NDIS Worker Screening Check

Specialised Supports:

Experience in challenging behaviour and complex needs is highly valued, highlighting your ability to provide targeted support to clients with specific requirements.

Supporting clients with mental health challenges, with demonstrated experience with outcomes.

Driver’s licence and comprehensively insured vehicle
