About the role
Are you passionate about maintaining the integrity of development and land use? Do you thrive in a role where your investigative skills make a real impact on your community? We are seeking a dedicated and proactive person to join our dynamic team as our new Development Enforcement Officer!
In this vital role, you’ll take the lead in investigating and addressing allegations of unauthorized development activity, including building work and land use violations. You will directly contribute to the enforcement of compliance and promote positive outcomes across diverse projects. Collaborating with a range of stakeholders, you'll ensure that development is carried out responsibly and in accordance with the law.
This is temporary fixed term contract up to 24 months.
What you will be doing:
Investigating and acting on allegations of unauthorized development, land use, and building work.
Using your investigative skills to resolve non-compliance issues.
Liaising with various teams to promote compliance and ensure optimal outcomes across a range of projects.
Engaging with the public and stakeholders, building strong relationships to effectively manage escalated matters.
Producing accurate and detailed reports, notices, and statements of evidence.
Requirements
Education of Higher School Certificate level or equivalent
A completed course in investigative procedures and methods, such as Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Control) or equivalent
Experience in investigations, preferably in Development Control and/or Building Surveying and/or land uses controls.
A working knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, Local Government Act 1993, Swimming Pools Act 1992 and Protection of the Environment Operations Act, 1997.
Understand and interpret legislation for practical enforcement purposes.
Ability to produce comprehensive and reliable reports and other documentation concerning complaints, investigations, orders and notices and statements of evidence.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, liaising with customers developing good rapport and good public relations.
Experience in Local Court.
Current NSW Class C driver’s licence.
