Are you creative and passionate about community engagement, collaborating with local communities, key organisations and stakeholders which will support our Community and Economic Development department?
The Kentish and Latrobe Councils are looking for a motivated Community Development Officer to join our team.
This is a shared position between the two Councils, offering diverse experiences and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across the municipalities.
The Role
As a Community Development Officer, you will be involved in a range of dynamic projects and responsibilities, including:
Project Management: Facilitate the development and implementation of initiatives, programs and projects that promote the engagement, participation, inclusion and capacity building of the wider community.
Community Growth: Support Council and the local communities to determine their community development goals and objectives that align with the Council’s strategic plans.
Community Engagement: Foster and expand the network of community support and services in the municipalities as key determinants to building stronger and more resilient communities.
Capacity Building: Work with key organisations, stakeholders and interested parties to determine sustainable processes that enhance community capacity.
Reports to Council: Prepare insightful reports and professional advice to inform council decisions.
Community Grants: Manage and administer grant programs to empower local initiatives.
Event Facilitation: Coordinate and support Council events and engage with existing and new event coordinators to support event development, fostering vibrant local activities.
Recovery: Support community recovery efforts in times of need.

To be successful you will have:
Demonstrated ability to facilitate community participation and involvement and a proven ability to liaise and work together with a wide range of stakeholders.
Well-developed communication skills including negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution.
Demonstrated organisational skills including goal setting, planning, time management and the prioritising of tasks.
Demonstrated experience with financial management of project budgets.
A recent track record of identifying funding opportunities (financial or in-kind) and working through processes including grant applications to enable funding opportunities to be realised.
Experience in creating, organising, and managing events and coordinating services for various social groups, including event evaluation whilst also being able to take a support and mentor role with external groups in developing and coordinating events.
Experience in promotional works including use of channels of print, radio, web, and social media platforms.
Experience in collecting, analysing, and interpreting demographic and social determinates data and identifying areas to improve in and strategies to achieve this.
Knowledge and understanding of computer systems and Microsoft Office365 applications.
About Us
The Latrobe and Kentish Councils are located adjacent to each other in the north-west of Tasmania and cover an area from the coastal beaches of Port Sorell to the Highland regions of Mount Roland and Cradle Mountain.
Latrobe and Kentish Councils value collaboration and partnerships both within and outside their municipalities. As part of their business model, the Councils have entered into a resource-sharing arrangement. This allows both Councils to deliver services and outcomes for their respective communities to gain benefits that may have been otherwise unattainable.
Since the inception of the resource sharing arrangements in 2010, the number of resources shared has steadily grown and the two Councils now operate as one organisation with each Council retaining their respective elected representatives.
