Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
New roles await
The Scheme Claims and Payments Branch plays a vital role at the NDIA by ensuring participants and providers receive accurate and timely payments, enabling them to focus on the essential services that empower National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants.
The branch also delivers insightful analysis and reporting, identifying trends and informing decision-making from the NDIS Board, the NDIA Senior Leadership Team and at various operational levels across the NDIA.
Our mission is to ensure all NDIS payments are processed accurately, efficiently and in compliance with governance requirements, supporting the financial integrity of the NDIS.

APS6 Team Leader
The APS6 Team Leader position requires leading a team to deliver critical payment outcomes while ensuring compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks.
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing leadership to a diverse and virtual team, including oversight in workflow management, setting of team and individual priorities, and ensuring high-quality outputs to ensure operational efficiency.
- Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to achieve branch and agency objectives providing expert guidance on complex and sensitive payment enquiries, ensuring timely resolution aligned with legislative and policy frameworks.
- Maintaining in-depth knowledge of legislative, financial and administrative frameworks to support compliance and informed decision-making.
- Identifying and driving continuous improvement initiatives, including developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures, to enhance systems and processes, focusing on achieving operational efficiency and high-quality outcomes.
APS6 Business Improvement Officer
The APS6 Business Improvement Officer is responsible for developing and managing projects plans, and business improvement initiatives including evaluation and status reporting.
Responsibilities may include:
- Responding to feedback from key internal stakeholders, including operational staff that ensure Claims and Payments processes continue delivering high quality and efficient outcomes.
- Undertaking data analysis to identify key trends, risks and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Managing multiple priorities while maintaining high work standards, governance protocols and accuracy, meeting defined timeframes and performing other duties as requested.
- Contributing to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives.
APS6 Payments Performance and Reporting
The APS6 Payments Performance and Reporting Officer is required to undertake data analysis to identify key trends, risks and opportunities; and oversee production of regular management reports that support operational business decisions.
Responsibilities may include:
- Coordinate and assist in the strategic planning, program and project management and policy development that support the NDIA’s objectives
- Provide accurate technical and professional advice, anticipating problems and contributing to issue resolution guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and precedents.
- Developing innovative reporting and performance tools to assess and enhance operational performance.
- Supporting work management activities undertaken by the branch.
- Contributing to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives.
APS6 Capability Support Officer
The APS6 Capability Development Officer is responsible for identifying and implementing solutions to build the capability and competency of operational staff across the branch.
Responsibilities may include:
- Developing and maintaining high-quality branch process documentation and resources.
- Listening and responding to feedback from key internal stakeholders, including operational staff to ensure Claims and Payments processes continue delivering high-quality and efficient outcomes.
- Supporting systems issue identification, management, and resolution through coordination and collaboration with key internal business areas.
- Supporting the delivery of branch-wide communications, ensuring targeted, timely, and accurate information and advice is provided.
- Providing technical advice and support across broad and geographically dispersed teams to achieve quality outputs and operational deliverables.
APS6 Finance Officer
The APS6 Finance Officer is a team membership position responsible for preparing and facilitating Scheme payments, including payment request cancellation as required.
Responsibilities may include:
- Supporting the efficient delivery of Scheme payments, including creating controls, identifying process improvements, and reducing the need for manual payment intervention.
- Preparing a range of management advice if the form of written material including business cases, reports in respect to key financial obligations and corporate documentation.
- Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for the team, including process mapping requirements.
- At times, undertake setting of priorities and managing workflows of a team, including interpreting and applying legislation and policy, in the application of practices and procedures to achieve outcomes.
APS6 Learning and Development Officer
The APS6 Learning and Development Officer is responsible for implementing, delivering, managing and evaluating New Starter Induction and branch-wide local and national training programs, using various virtual arrangements.
Responsibilities may include:
- Collaborating with and building productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, ensure learning solutions remain responsive and relevant.
- Developing artefacts, resources and learning and development products; and adapting and using new for others to learn through effective training and support.
- Providing technical advice and support across broad and geographically dispersed teams, supporting the achievement of quality outputs and operational deliverables.
- Leveraging existing quality assurance and feedback channels, identifying and addressing learning needs.
APS6 Project Officer
The APS6 Project Officer is responsible for conducting change impact assessments and providing recommendations to support the Scheme Claims and Payments Branch system enhancements, including participation in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Responsibilities may include:
- Coordinating the monitoring of system defects and enhancement opportunities using tools such as Jira, including data analysis to assess impact and propose solution
- Investigating and escalating system performance issues while progressing resolutions in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Developing and managing project plans, including tracking progress, conducting evaluations and preparing reports on key outcomes.
- Communicating change impact outcomes to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with branch objectives and operational priorities.
- Preparing and delivering clear, concise and actionable communication materials to support branch-specific system changes and defect resolution processes.

While this role is ideally performed from Parramatta, NSW – Brisbane, QLD – Adelaide, SA – Geelong, VIC – Richmond, VIC – Midland, WA, flexible working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
