Are you passionate about communication and community engagement?
Do you have a flair for creative marketing, public relations, and delivering exceptional results?
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, motivated and solutions-focused Engagement Officer to join our team until September 2026!
What You Will Do:
Reporting to the Team Leader Engagement, this role is all about making a difference - not just in the community, but also for our internal teams. It is not your typical marketing & communication role; it is about delivering clear, impactful communication, translating complex information into meaningful messages, and ensuring our engagement efforts truly resonate with stakeholders.
As the Engagement Officer, you will deliver high-quality communications and engagement activities that support the Cairns Infrastructure & Assets Directorate. Your work will align closely with Council’s strategic vision and corporate branding, helping to drive the success of our projects while strengthening our connection with both internal and external audiences.
What We Are Looking For:
The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver with strong emotional intelligence, excellent relationship skills, and a positive, team-focused mindset. They should be adaptable, driven, and ready to bring fresh ideas to the table – turning even the toughest topics into engaging and accessible content for the community.
Experience in strategic communications, consultation, marketing, events, and engagement is highly valued (including IAP2 certification), but what truly matters is a passion for delivering value to the community and to the internal teams we support.
In return, we offer strong support, coaching, and professional growth opportunities (and a great team!). This is an opportunity to develop and expand your skills while making a real impact.
If you are ready to roll up your sleeves and help shape how we communicate, engage, and inform, we would love to hear from you!
Some benefits we offer:
Achieve work / life balance with flexible working arrangements
Fitness Passport - subsidised health and well-being memberships (gym/swimming pool)
Recharge with up to 5 weeks annual leave
Up to 3 weeks personal leave
Secure your future with 12% superannuation contributions
Salary sacrifice opportunities
Grow personally and professionally with learning and development opportunities
Cherish family time with up to 14 weeks paid parental leave
We are committed to:
Fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment
Embracing innovation and continuous improvement
Cultivating a culture of professional growth and support
Now we want to hear about YOU!
