Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) has an opportunity for a First Nations Education Consultant. In this role, you'll work closely with the First Nations education team and CEWA staff to strengthen the capacity of teachers and school leadership teams. You'll support the integration of First Nations Education into school improvement processes, ensuring its effective embedding within the strategic frameworks of Catholic schools across the Perth Archdiocese. Your collaborative efforts will focus on enhancing educational outcomes and fostering a deeper understanding of First Nations perspectives within the school community.
This is a full-time ongoing position based in West Leederville.
This position is pursuant of Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984, the occupant of this position must be of Australian Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander descent.

- Salary range for this position is J1- J4 on the CEO salary scale ($131,340 - $147,062 per annum) plus superannuation.

About the Role
- Support the school and system initiatives aligned with CEWA's Strategic Initiatives and Quality Catholic Education.
- Assisting in aligning school and system initiatives with the Vision for Learning to ensure high expectations in First Nations education.
- Collaborating with CEWA staff, including School Improvement Advisors and School Support Consultants, to help School Leadership Teams develop, activate, and integrate a First Nations Education goal into the School Improvement Plan and processes.
- Contributing to the development of cultural competency for staff in Catholic schools across the Perth Archdiocese.
- Working alongside Teaching and Learning Consultants, Religious Education Consultants, and school staff to embed First Nations perspectives into the curriculum.
- Encouraging partnerships between schools, Parishes, Agencies, Higher Education Institutions, and local First Nations communities to strengthen school-community relationships.
- Supporting schools in developing strategies to engage First Nations families in the educational process.
- Promoting professional learning and growth for First Nations Teaching Assistants, enhancing their impact in Perth schools.
- Mentoring and create a professional network for First Nations Teaching Assistants to encourage collaboration and support.
- Preparing and contribute to reports, submissions, briefings, and correspondence related to First Nations education in the Perth Archdiocese as required.
Key Skills and Experience
- First Nations background as required under Section 50(d) of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 1984.
- Prepared to support and promote the Catholic ethos in the performance of duties.
- Current TRBWA registration and Working with Children Check.
- Demonstrated commitment to Quality Catholic Education, CEWA's Vision for Learning, and relevant teaching and learning frameworks, position statements, and guidelines.
- Strong understanding of cultural competency research and practices related to school improvement processes.
- In-depth knowledge of First Nations cultures and communities across Western Australia.
- High-level written and oral communication skills, with the ability to maintain accurate and comprehensive reports.
- Ability to work effectively both collaboratively in person and remotely.
- Highly developed skills in digital technologies and the integration of these tools in educational contexts.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering professional learning for adult learners, particularly related to First Nations education.
- Strong ability to innovate, problem-solve, and create solutions to emerging challenges, with a focus on improving First Nations student outcomes.
- Willingness to travel to and work in regional and remote locations.
