Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a Media and Public Relations Officer to join the team. This role focuses on sharing accurate and timely information about the Council’s activities and services, building a strong connection with the local community.

What we offer:

• $74,000–$89,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience) + Superannuation
• 5 weeks Annual Leave (with 17.5% Leave Loading)
• Monthly RDO (13 per year)
• Personal (Sick) Leave
• Remote Area Housing Assistance ($60 pw Renting / $90 pw Homeowner)
• Locality Allowance

What you will do:

• Act as the main point of contact for all media-related matters
• Plan and deliver clear, effective communication strategies.
• Write media releases, manage social media content, and respond to media enquiries.
• Produce engaging materials to inform and connect with the community.
• Maintain the Council’s website and digital platforms.
• Monitor public and media feedback and assist with emergency communication.
• Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and other departments

What we are looking for:

• A skilled communicator with strong writing and digital content skills
• Someone who can work independently and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• A person passionate about connecting with the community and promoting Council initiatives.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends when required.

Qualifications Needed:

Mandatory:

• Demonstrated experience in a similar media or public relations role.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience managing social media and digital content.
• Current C Class Driver’s Licence

Desirable:

• Qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
  
• Experience working within local government or the public sector.
  
• Familiarity with media monitoring tools and content creation software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.)
• Knowledge of regional and remote community dynamics
