About the Barkly Region
The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

Learn about the local cultural at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre, spend the day kayaking at Tingkkarli (Lake Mary Ann), or take a walk around the peculiar rock formations of Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) or use your leisure time from work and take a 4WD adventure into the Davenport Ranges. There is lots to discover in the Barkly Region. With some of the most beautiful landscapes in Australia and easy access to several of Australia’s tourism icons. Facilities
Tennant Creek has a well-stocked IGA and several other specialist retail businesses along with a number of cafes, pubs and clubs. Along with a private medical centre the Barkly region’s health needs are met with a 20-bed hospital located in Tennant Creek. Both a primary school and high school are located in Tennant Creek along with a new and modern Youth Centre.

The Barkly Regional Council is the second-largest Local Government by land mass in Australia. The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). About the Role
We’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic and capable Administration and Media Officer to support our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Executive Team, and Elected Members in delivering high-level administrative services, media management, and stakeholder engagement.
This is a dynamic and varied role where no two days are the same. You’ll be responsible for managing the Council’s public presence, coordinating events, and keeping internal operations running smoothly in a fast-paced environment. The Essentials
• Experience in developing and implementing effective media and communication strategies.
• Proven ability to create quality content for digital platforms, including social media, websites, newsletters, and public documents.
• Knowledge of office administration with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant communication tools.
• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Current Driver’s Licence.
• Current National Police Criminal History Check (within the last 3 months).
• Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card).
About You
• You have excellent organisational and administrative skills, with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
• You demonstrate a collaborative, adaptable, and team-focused approach to working across diverse teams and communities.
• You are willing and able to travel within the Barkly region, including overnight stays as required.
The Finer Details
• Full-Time - Permanent position paying Level 8 of the Barkly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2023.
• Annual Salary of $87,014.91 per annum ($3,346.73 gross per fortnight).
• Tennant Creek Zone Allowance of $1.89 per ordinary hour.
• 11.5% Superannuation.
• Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% Leave Loading.
