About the ACTIVATE Program
The ACTIVATE program is designed to support students in developing key life skills, resilience, confidence, and personal growth. Through structured mentoring sessions, the program helps students navigate challenges, set and achieve meaningful goals, and develop a strong sense of self-awareness and accountability. By fostering positive relationships and encouraging self-reflection, mentors empower students to build confidence, improve their wellbeing, and develop the mindset needed to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Role Overview
As an ACTIVATE Program Mentor, you will work 1-on-1 or in small groups with students in schools across Mackay, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to help them develop life skills and a positive mindset. Your role will focus on:
Building meaningful connections with students to foster trust and engagement.
Helping students develop resilience, confidence, and personal accountability.
Encouraging self-reflection and goal-setting to support their personal growth.
Providing structured mentoring sessions that promote emotional intelligence and wellbeing.
Supporting students in developing leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
Aligning sessions with each school’s vision for student development.
Identifying individual strengths and areas for improvement, tailoring strategies accordingly.
Creating a positive and inclusive environment that encourages students to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate engaging mentoring sessions that support students' wellbeing and personal development.
Assist students in identifying challenges, setting goals, and working towards solutions.
Encourage positive behaviour, self-confidence, and a growth mindset.
Work closely with school staff to align program goals with student needs.
Provide feedback on student progress and suggest strategies for further development.
Foster a safe and supportive space for students to express themselves.
About You
We are looking for mentors who are passionate about student wellbeing and personal development. The ideal candidate will have:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
A genuine desire to support and empower young people.
Experience working with students in a mentoring, teaching, coaching, or support role.
The ability to create a positive and engaging environment.
Strong problem-solving and leadership skills.
A proactive and adaptable approach to working with different student needs.
Requirements
A current Blue Card (or ability to obtain one).
Availability for 1–4 days per week during school hours.
A commitment to making a positive impact on students’ lives.
Ability to work independently while collaborating with school staff and the ACTIVATE team.
Additional Opportunities
Mentors also have the opportunity to take on tutoring work outside of school hours and on weekends. This can be done online or in person, providing additional flexibility and earning potential.
