The Environment and Cultural Heritage team is responsible for providing environmental management guidance and support, as well as cultural heritage responsibilities, for the Far North District. This team provides advice to support both the government and the department in fulfilling their environmental and cultural heritage management obligations.

Collaborating with our Technical Services team, you will contribute to the preservation and protection of these precious ecosystems. Your expertise and dedication will play a vital role in ensuring sustainable development and the minimal environmental impact of our transportation infrastructure.

What we are looking for:

  • A Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, or an equivalent field. Your educational background will provide you with the foundation to understand and contribute to environmental assessments and management.
  • The ability to conduct environmental assessments in alignment with established policies and processes, while also providing basic environmental management advice. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that our transportation projects have minimal impact on the surrounding ecosystems.
  • A strong customer focus, which enables you to understand and meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. Building and maintaining positive relationships will be a key aspect of your role.
  • Demonstrated skills in building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders. Your ability to collaborate and engage with individuals and organisations will be essential in promoting effective environmental management practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You should be adept at conveying complex information in a clear and concise manner, as well as preparing reports and reviewing documentation with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You will encounter various challenges in your role as an Environmental Officer, and your ability to think critically and find practical solutions will be invaluable.
