About the business
The Daniel Morcombe Foundation was established in May 2005 as a lasting legacy to Daniel Morcombe. It was established by parents Bruce and Denise after their son Daniel was abducted and murdered in December 2003 while waiting to catch a bus on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
The Foundation's key role in the community is the education of all children about their personal safety. By directly assisting educators and parents through the funding and development of child safety educational resources as well as assisting young victims of crime, the Foundation continues to empower all Australians to make their local communities safer places for all children.
The Foundation is strongly committed to the development and education of Respectful Relationships for children and teenagers in our schools and communities and also assisting in reducing the over-representation of Indigenous Australians in the Child Protection sector.
The Foundation's objectives are:
To educate children regarding their personal safety (including abduction).
To assist victims of crime, particularly where crime involves children.
To remember Daniel with suitable child safety community awareness events.
To support the families of Missing Persons particularly where it involves children.
About the role
Position Objectives:
This is a fulltime role and its key purpose is to assist the Bright Futures Manager in the development and delivery of a national program called Bright Futures.
Bright Futures is an innovative national program initiated by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation addressing the growing prevalence of Technology Assisted Harmful Sexual Behaviour (TA-HSB)(inc. pornography) & Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). This will build on the work of the Changing Futures Program which increases confidence & competence of professionals who work with children to prevent, identify & respond to Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB).
Key Responsibilities:
Work with a team to develop training materials and resources to support frontline workers, parents/carers and others, in the area of child protection, Harmful Sexual Behaviours, Technology Assisted Harmful Sexual Behaviours and Child Sexual Exploitation. This will involve:
Delivering face to face training to a wide range of stakeholders in a variety of formats including but not limited to workshops, forums, webinars, podcast, presentations and conferences.
Developing online learning, such as webinars and e-learning packages.
Creation of Podcasts.
Ability to conduct academic research to translate to meaningful learning materials/resources for a variety of audiences.
Under the supervision of the Changing Futures and Bright Futures Manager, utilise a continuous quality improvement approach to continually incorporate best practice learning principles into content development, ensuring quality training and assessment to occur in accordance with the content presented.
Assist in the delivery of the annual Bright Futures plan and critical path.
Working with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation to support additional projects as required
Skills and experience:
A Health or Education degree is essential.
Experience in delivering face to face training to stakeholders in a variety of formats including but not limited to workshops, presentations, webinars and conferences.
Experience in developing, reviewing and delivering innovative training materials. Materials may include videos, PowerPoint presentations, case studies, role-plays, interactive activities, online forums and assessments.
An understanding of Harmful Sexual Behaviours, Technology Assistant Harmful Sexual Behaviours and Child Sexual Exploitation. An understanding of the effect of these on the individual, family, interpersonal and at a societal level.
Ability to undertake and/or utilise academic research to translate to meaningful learning materials for a variety of audiences.
Key Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated experience in working with children, young people and families preferably within a therapeutic or education context, who have had experiences of sexual abuse.
Knowledge and understanding of Harmful Sexual Behaviours and Child Sexual Exploitation
Evidence of an in depth understanding of child protection practice and legislation.
Demonstrated experience in delivering face to face training in a variety of formats.
Demonstrated experience in developing, reviewing and delivering innovative training materials and resources.
Demonstrated ability to undertake and/or utilise academic research and translate into meaningful learning materials.
High level verbal and written communication skills including the ability to liaise with members of the public, academic professionals and key project stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft office suite and data management.
Ability to travel both interstate and intrastate as required. Overnight travel will be a requirement.
Ability to work as part of a team, to contribute to a positive team culture within the team and to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation goals.
Other requirements:
An understanding of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation Child Safety Curriculum or the ability to develop this knowledge base quickly.
Eligibility for a Qld Blue Card
A current driver's licence.
