Overview
Join Edith Cowan University as a Research Fellow on an innovative project developing advanced transdermal insulin delivery systems. This exciting role involves designing and optimising cutting-edge delivery technologies, including microneedles, insulin carriers, iontophoresis, and electroporation. You will conduct ex-vivo and in-vitro studies with rodents to assess the safety and efficacy of these systems and perform detailed biomaterial characterisation and data analysis. Collaborating with Dr. Ana Vafadar and A/Prof. Amir Razmjou, you will contribute to high-impact publications, assist in securing research funding, and support the commercialization of intellectual property. This position also offers opportunities to mentor junior researchers and engage in multidisciplinary collaborations. Applicants should hold a PhD in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field. Expertise in membrane development and drug delivery systems is highly desirable.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Design, fabricate, and optimise advanced transdermal delivery systems, including microneedle-based systems, insulin carriers, iontophoretic, and electroporation.
  • Developing biomaterials, with detailed characterisation and data analysis of biomaterials and transdermal systems.
  • Conduct ex vivo and in vitro studies involving rodents to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the developed systems.
  • Produce high-quality research outputs, publish in reputable outlets, and develop an emerging research profile.
  • Collaborate on research funding applications, joint projects, and commercialisation of intellectual property.
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to team collaborations.

Selection Criteria:

  • Familiarity with ion-selective membranes and drug delivery systems.
  • Hands-on expertise with MOF-based materials and their biomedical applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and mentor junior researchers.
  • Strong communication skills and experience preparing grant proposals.
  • Expertise in biomaterials fabrication, membrane development, and advanced characterisation techniques.
  • Experience in animal studies, including handling, dosing, and biological sample collection.

Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of a doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, nanotechnology, or a related field.

Benefits & Remuneration
This part-time, fixed-term position attracts remuneration of $81,614 to $90,691 per annum pro rata (up to 32.5 hours per week), plus a 17% University superannuation contribution.
