We’re looking for a General and Acute Care Physician to provide senior support at Katherine Hospital. This role offers the chance to work in a unique setting, providing both in-hospital care and outreach services to some of Australia’s most isolated remote communities.

For the right candidate, this is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to make a real impact!

As a General and Acute Care Physician you will:

Provide specialist medical care to inpatients and ambulatory patients in Katherine Hospital and regional communities

Work closely with another permanent on-site General Physician with a special interest in Respiratory Medicine

Participate a negotiable, flexible roster which includes:

Some after-hours on-call responsibility

2 weeks ward duties

2 weeks clinic duties with travel to remote communities to provide outreach

Katherine Hospital is a 60-bed facility that services the Big Rivers Region, which covers a geographical area larger than Victoria. The medical and surgical ward is a 24-bed unit, with approximately 30 acute admissions per week – with high levels of respiratory and infectious disease with a tropical flavour, high rates of rheumatic heart disease and metabolic illness. Over 70% of admissions are Aboriginal patients, with an average age of 45 years. An interest in Aboriginal health is essential, as Aboriginal people from many different language groups comprise over half of our region’s population and add to the richness of our rural hospital experience. The medicine is amazing! The challenges of tropical medicine, remoteness, high acuity, complex comorbidities and the uniqueness of our hospital experience provide for a rewarding career.

The Benefits

Attractive remuneration package

Generous leave entitlements

Accommodation and relocation assistance available

Job share/ flexible work options

Exposure to tropical conditions and complex comorbidities not commonly seen elsewhere.

Scope for maintaining and developing professional networks and skills through links to RDH and retrieval services
