Katherine Hospital is a 60-bed facility that services the Big Rivers Region, which covers a geographical area larger than Victoria. The medical and surgical ward is a 24-bed unit, with approximately 30 acute admissions per week – with high levels of respiratory and infectious disease with a tropical flavour, high rates of rheumatic heart disease and metabolic illness. Over 70% of admissions are Aboriginal patients, with an average age of 45 years. An interest in Aboriginal health is essential, as Aboriginal people from many different language groups comprise over half of our region’s population and add to the richness of our rural hospital experience. The medicine is amazing! The challenges of tropical medicine, remoteness, high acuity, complex comorbidities and the uniqueness of our hospital experience provide for a rewarding career.
The Benefits
Attractive remuneration package
Generous leave entitlements
Accommodation and relocation assistance available
Job share/ flexible work options
Exposure to tropical conditions and complex comorbidities not commonly seen elsewhere.
