This job will be offered as part time geriatrics / part time general medicine position up to 1.0 FTE in total, ideally suited to a dual trained Geriatrician/General Physician. One vacancy is available, working in Darwin and Palmerston.

A high level of leadership skills will be required to manage a large team of junior staff in busy units. An exceptional understanding of complex discharge planning and willingness to engage ambulatory care services to ensure timely discharges will be required in our challenging environment. Engagement with cultural orientation is essential for any interested applicant as well as the ability to work well in a team and engage patients of the diverse multicultural background of the Top End of the Northern Territory.

Key duties and responsibilities

Provide consultant level management of inpatients admitted under a General Medical Unit within Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and Geriatric Medicine at Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH).

General Medicine service will include management of General Medical Unit at Royal Darwin Hospital in 2-week blocks. This requires a broad depth of knowledge and significant experience in complex patient management and discharge planning.

Geriatric medicine will include a mix of service in the; Acute Care of The Elderly (ACE) ward at PRH, which is run as an acute geriatrics service model, the Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) ward at PRH, and also the Interim Care Ward at PRH.

Essential

Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Specialist registration with Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in General and Acute Care Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.
