The Opportunity

The Human Development and Community Wellbeing Team conducts research across the lifespan from conception, childhood, and youth to adulthood and the social determinants that impact and influence outcomes. The team’s focus is on the broader life course of individuals and communities within the family, school, and online environments, and includes economic evaluation of programs and outcomes.

As part of our team, this role is an opportunity for an early-career researcher in a relevant field to build experience and advance their career by working on an ARC funded Discovery Project entitled ‘How Australian fathers shape the trajectory of their children’s wellbeing’ (2025-2029). The project focuses on empowering fathers and father figures to improve the health and wellbeing of children. Collaborating with an experienced team, you will utilise your qualitative and analytical research skills to develop further in research, stakeholder engagement, data dissemination, and knowledge translation.

Some of your duties will include but are not limited to:

Understand the research question(s), assess data available and develop an appropriate analysis plan to address the research question(s).

Conduct appropriate statistical analysis in a reproducible research framework.

Identify funding opportunities, assist with new data requests, funding proposals, and potentially leading smaller proposals with support from senior Investigators.

Contribute to mentoring, supervising and capacity building of students.

Actively participate in meetings with Investigators, the research team and external stakeholders to communicate results and provide feedback.

Conveniently based at Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, this is a full-time, 4-year position.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a recognised doctoral qualification in a health or social science related discipline (e.g., Health Promotion, Public Health, Psychology) and relevant experience.

You will also have demonstrated experience in the following:

Strong data management skills, analytical abilities, and experience in the application of a wide range of statistical techniques for research purposes.

Experience analysing large and complex data sets (ideally population survey data and linked administrative data).

Proficiency with statistical software packages for the manipulation and analysis of data (strong preference for R skills).

Evidence of publication, conference and stakeholder presentations, relative to opportunity, and the ability to present research findings in a clear and engaging way.

Experience with wider research processes including grant applications, human research ethics committees, data requests and reporting.

We are driving inclusion and diversity as part of the way we work and embrace the diverse career and life experiences of our staff. If you meet a number of the requirements (and not all), we encourage you to submit your application. We also encourage you to address any career disruptions (if applicable) you may have had in your cover letter.
