The Opportunity
The Human Development and Community Wellbeing Team conducts research across the lifespan from conception, childhood, and youth to adulthood and the social determinants that impact and influence outcomes. The team’s focus is on the broader life course of individuals and communities within the family, school, and online environments, and includes economic evaluation of programs and outcomes.
This exciting opportunity offers an experienced Research Assistant in a relevant field the chance to build experience and advance their career by working on projects that focus on empowering fathers to improve the health and wellbeing of children and investigate the critical factors underlying disadvantage across the life course. Collaborating with an experienced team, you will develop skills in research, stakeholder engagement, data dissemination, and knowledge translation.
Some of your duties will include but are not limited to:
Contribute to dataset cleaning, standardisation and management as required, utilising existing procedures and set up procedures as required for quality assurance and data validation.
Create analytic datasets by integrating data from multiple data sources.
Conduct appropriate statistical analysis in a reproducible research framework.
Actively participate in meetings with Investigators, the research team and external stakeholders to communicate results and provide feedback.
Conveniently based at Perth Children’s Hospital, this role will be offered on a full-time basis for 4 years.
About You
The ideal applicant for this role will have a n undergraduate degree in statistics or another relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or equivalent experience in a quantitative field. Along with this, your application must also demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
Skills, experience and confidence in the application of a wide range of statistical techniques using large and complex integrated data sets.
Excellent programming skills and proficiency with statistical software packages for the manipulation and analysis of data (strong preference for R skills).
Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate statistical ideas and results (both written and oral) with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
Good time and project management skills, including maintaining open communication regarding project progress; an ability to take responsibility for own work.
Understand issues related to data governance (security/ privacy).
