Join the Cognitive Canine Team as a Dog Walker/Assistant Dog Trainer!

Are you passionate about dogs and eager to develop your skills in dog training? Cognitive Canine are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic dog walker/assistant dog trainer to join our friendly team. If you are excited about the opportunity to work with a variety of dogs, have a love for the canine world, and want to progress towards becoming a qualified dog trainer, this is the perfect role for you!

Position Details:

This role offers 15-25 hours per week, with availability during daytime hours on weekdays. There is potential for the right candidate to increase their hours.

Who we are looking for:

A applicant who has availability on weekdays between 9am and 3pm

Has an understanding of dog body language and behaviour

Ability to work independently

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with our customers

Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to conflict resolution.

Has their own car and comprehensive insurance

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and capacity to use customer relationship management software

Access to own smartphone, able to take photos, videos and write progress notes for each dog

Physically and mentally fit to meet the demands of the role including ability to lift up to 20kg and fitness to provide dog walking services

No existing conflicts of interest at the start of employment (examples include using pet sitting apps, running your own dog training business or working for a competing business)

What You'll Be Doing:

You will be walking and exercising dogs one on one and in small groups all around Canberra. Transporting dogs in your comprehensively insured car as required. Providing quality care and attention to dogs during walks, ensuring the safety and comfort of all dogs in your care, and communicating with dog owners with updates and photos of their pets. You will also assist with basic dog training when needed, based on Cognitive Canine’s methods.

Ideal Qualifications & Experience:

Qualifications or currently studying veterinary nursing or companion animal services is highly desirable. Previous experience handling and walking dogs, especially in a professional setting, is preferred. You must have a genuine love for dogs and a passion for working with them, along with strong communication skills, especially when interacting with dog owners. The ability to work independently and follow guidelines set by Cognitive Canine is also important.

Wages are dependent on qualifications and experience:

Assistant Dog Trainer Level 1 (Currently Enrolled and Studying) $29.33 per hour

Qualified Dog Trainer Level 2 (New Graduate) $31.23 per hour

Qualified Dog Trainer Level 3 (Qualified and Experienced) $35 per hour
